caring for your guitar strings

any tips on how to keep your strings as good as new? I use fast fret now and then but my strings still rust all the time :/ not that i dont try to keep it clean

Use the cloth...use the cloth!

Do your fingers perspire? That could be a problem too...

put a condom over ur guitar =D serious la, cover the neck with something when not playing, ur strings will last long long

Dunlop Ultraglide kinda helps for me..but yeah, the type of strings you use also affects the rust...I'm currently using Curt Mangan's 0.095..and yeah,it doesn't rust as fast as my old strings which were D'addarios and EHXs...

i read somewhere in guitar player that theres something called a neck sock for preventing the moisture from coming in and keeping your strings the way they were. good luck finding something like that tho.....ive never seen one anywhere here.

IMO, i find dunlop 65 solution more effective than fastfret......anyways...

well, just be sure that you also clean the strings with the cloth after you play. and dont forget the fast fret too.

cheers ;)

can someone tell me where can i buy fastfret? i currently using singer oil to wipe my string lol.. but it still maintain good condition, but now my last E string is black in colour =X, can someone tell me where to buy fastfret? i need to buy >_<

8O

singer oil can meh.....

anyway you can get fastfret at musical instrument stores, like swee lee, davis guitar, etc...

cheers ;)

I`m using Dr. Ducks...
sting, body, neck, fretboard and hardware..
can use every parts of guitar.

Before use dr.ducks I use fast-fret, Kyser and dunlop..
But I think dr. ducks is the best.

Fender and the other many brands also use this one..
for the last polishing in the factory...

i regularly clean the strings with the fast fret and i clean it with the cloth too. hmm cover it? i used to keep it in its bag (soft case) didnt help much?

yeah curt magnans are preety gd.

Best buy cm's only $5.50 each. Change them once a month. Cmon u can afford $5.50 a month on strings. Like this always fresh.

strings are meant to be changed like once a month at the most if u play regularly.

good practice would be to wipe the strings after you play

i just changed my strings today to DR red devils. Only tried it cos my fellow guitarist said it was good and never rusts according to him. Cost me 18 bucks, only like it so far cos of its red colour which suites my guitar lol. Other then that..tone wise, i say dean markely still better i think.

non coated will prob sound and feel beteer as u experienced. Some people have experienced the color coating coming off after some time.

Also even if a string dosen't rust, if kept too long on the guitar, it slowly loses its tone. Alternatively u can try stainless steel strings. Its still better to get reasonably priced strings and change them regularly. Heck at one point of time i used to change strings once every 2 weeks. Then again i got lazy.

I Use La Bella's HARD ROCK STEEL .009 .. it sure takes a hell lot of time for it to rust.. sometimes gives me a feeling of restlessness that i just wanna buy a pack and change coz it just doesnt rust!!! Definitely a reliability for me. It was a personal recommendation from Andy Timmons himself.. and our resident guitarer Paul Danial. Thanks guys. =)
