can guitar use bass amps?

Actually a bass amp can handle the highs.

Many blues players run through fender bassmans..

Its been done.

i plug my guitars into my Ibanez SW35 bass amp if i'm bored with my Peavey...

bass amps will handle guitar, but guitar amps have limited tolerance for bass, your driver will most likely crack.

The guitar can be used on bass amps, but make sure there is an active input.
I am planning to use a bass amp for my guitar too.

I don't know how to explain it, hmm.
I've always known that guitars require active input, while bass uses the passive input.
The input on a guitar amp is active and passive on a bass amp.
Some bass amps have both passive and active.
Correct me if I am wrong. I really hope someone can explain this more explicitly to me too.

hi,

bass amp have both passive and active.

try not to plug ur guitar into the bass amp.
as for guitars, amplifier meant for guitar has
different type of setting, as guitar wiring is
a circuit connection to get supported by guitar amp.

as guitar wiring is
a circuit connection to get supported by guitar

which means to complete the circuit of the
guitar electric/sound run, the power supply have to come
from the guitar amp which have an exact finishing
circuit meant for the guitar, whereas the bass amp and the bass
guitar has another set of wiring circuit.

Not too sure if I remember correctly, but the inputs of bass amps are as follows:

Active Input: it has a built-in decibel cut, as it is mean to cater to high-output basses, such as those with active preamps or ultra-high output pickups. This is to prevent the high gain going into the amp from overdriving it.

Passive Input: basically meant for the basses with lower output, which mostly refers to passive basses, as their output signals are way lower than those of their active counterparts, therefore there is no need to lower the gain going into the amp.

I don't know how the input jacks of guitar amps work, since I'm a bassist. Please correct me if I'm wrong! :?

Yep u'r rite plug ur bass into your guitar amp,
ur tube will blow.

For acoutic lovers, ur guitar can be plug into
bass amps. Nothing is wrong with this.
It will produce a nice acoustic sound.

uhm could you tell me how you "specialize in guitar repair, service and maintaining" and still be able to make completely asinine statements as these? both consist of complete and utter bullshit babble and make no sense at all.

there is no way plugging a bass into a guitar amp will make the tube "blow". if anything the only thing you'll hurt is the speaker itself as guitar speakers are usually not designed to handle the low frequencies generated by a bass at high volumes, period. you might be able to get away with it at low volumes for a short period of time, but generally not recommended.

plugging a guitar into a bass amp however, will have no ill effect whatsoever. rentabass got it right with the high/low inputs, its simply to compensate for different output levels between active/passive pickups. the same can be found in certain guitar amps, but more common on bass amps.[/quote]
