Cable TV subscription hike

all i can say is:

k e t u k !

They sould at least have normal prices for "off epl season"! All this talk about epl related operating costs is nonsense - Malaysia's cable operators never seems to increase prices that high - in fact their rates are vastly cheaper to begin with when compared to our overall SCV package!

Mass revolution to cancel subsription shud be done to voice our "concern" as Im sure for them its always the bottom line!

it's a bummer that scv has the monopoly in cable tv in singapore. what we need is competition to keep the prices low for us consumers!

there will be competitors come this year end, just wondering who they are... hope there will be a provider who deals in specific channels rather than the bundled offer provided by SCV. this way, we pay for what we want only.

Eh.. how much the SCV hike ah?? We are paying for channels we don't even watch sia... like bbc/hallmark... and it's pretty unfair...

those who has indonesian channels they take in epl and most football competitions.. commentary is made on english but match discussion is made on b.indonesia... but it's free, who can argue?? plus B.indonesia is soo easy to learn and understand hehehe...

but they don't take in all matches - i tink...

watever we have to say, its goin to fall on deaf ears, its the same for all hikes in spore. They let u discuss abt it but not goin to do anything abt it, cos as mentioned, its the monopoly thing. U can complain all u want but end of the day u still have to use their service as they are the only source.. Reminds me of the Nets hike which is goin to come soon, even though CASE is not supportive of it, they still goin to hike anyway.

quote Mobius: watever we have to say, its goin to fall on deaf ears, its the same for all hikes in spore.

it's not about letting this fall to deaf ears, at least we know there are people who are unhappy about it & are ready to switch once the competition kicks in. hope this is a signal enough to the current service provider to be more benevolent to the existing subscribers. no use throwing in freebies & stuff when it doesn't address the fee hike.

similarly elsewhere, the authority isn't going to let the people have the last say...

if 50% of subcribers cancel - even if only to puah hung then reinstate again - THEY will take notice.

its all about the bottom line

dunno if there are any sports channel willing to offer broadcast over the internet instead, since many of us here are on braodband anyway. pay per view of course...

Quoted from channelnewsasia:

Sports fans, who have to fork out 66 percent more, wonder if things could have been done differently.

"What you're paying for are the frills - the prematch, the half-time talk at the end of the match, and post-match highlights. I think it's too much already. I think the bulk that we're paying is for the presenters. So if possible, I would prefer no-frills matches, and I'll just watch the match and be done," said Neville Chew, a StarHub pay-TV subscriber.

"Sometimes it can be too draggy and lengthy. They should just cut it short and bring us the 'live' match," said StarHub pay-TV subscriber Vincent Cheong. "

Totally agree with this guy

guys... i dunno if this is allowed here but ...

there is something known as sopcast and it allows you to watch live soccer matches ad even latest movies online. its called online streaming i think and the number of channels is simply huge.

http://www.sopcast.org/

if this is not allowed then delete it by all means. thankyou and cheers. haha

why pay when u can get it for free. i've been watching champion's league, world cup, etc from free to air malaysian tv channels. i can get tv1, ntv7, tv3, tv9 & tv8 using those old school tv antenna and not thru the scv cable point. gone are the days where channel 5 shows live high profile football matches, the most they show now is from semi finals onwards.

on a sidenote, i think starhub increasing the price now cuz they know soon they will not be the only monopoly liao. the reasons they give are bollocks la. just use your common sense, will know they are just being politically correct without actually hitting the point. how passe.

ITS ALL ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE!

mainly theirs....

I say PAY PER VIEW IS THE BEST!

That way wont have to worry about paying $25 a month to watch Sunderland Vs Man City ...

SURPRIZE!! all u can do now is pay them... hike or no hike, u still got to watch the math live.. so somewhat, it's the bottomline..

The frills, yeah i agree.. they GTG... But don't throw away Nokia football crazy..

those kinda frills get's the most viewed of them all.. - i think...

buttseckz..

exactly. i agree with whoever said that we should pay for what we want only. my Mom cancelled MTV cause my brother wants CNN. and he doesn't even watch anymore. now, she can't cancel it and subscribe to MTV cause the rates are gonna be different.

there're so many channels in there that i don't watch. shit. and i'm pretty much the only one that watched SCV.

I believe Starhub is just setting the market rates for the future, When the new competitors come in, this new pricing will be the benchmark, and after a while , everyone will forget about this transitional phase and bitch about how greedy the new competition is too.

Business is Business.
