Buying from overseas?

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting some equipment overseas and need some local help here. :D

1. Firstly, what is Paypal? I'm thinking of mostly paying in cash. Bank transfer? What is it?

2. Also, what are the steps to ensure that my transaction goes smooth and safe?

3. Some websites may ask to ask for shipping and handling costs, how do I do that? Come down to Singpost?

Thanks guys.

1. Paypal is a service that allows you to pay for items over the internet via a credit / debit card. Currently, it doesn't allow withdrawals from a S'pore bank.

2. If you use Paypal, it should be smooth and safe as you can file a dispute with Paypal (within 45 days of payment) if the item doesn't arrive in the correct condition or doesn't arrive at all.

3. To calculate shipping charges, you ask the merchant to do it for you.. Just email them for a shipping quote to Singapore for the item that you want.. You do not go to Singpost to check unless you want to ship something from Singapore to elsewhere..

1. Debit card? I'm thinking DBS debit card. So its like I put money in the card's account and just use the number if I'm to make overseas purchases?

2. Paypal? Credit card use ah?

3. Merchant? You mean the seller?

1 and 2: you can use your Debit card with Paypal.. just make sure there is enough $$ inside the bank account (linked with the card) to make your purchase

3: yes.. the seller

thanks i am corn, really appreciate the help. ill come again if there's any problems/queries. :D

thanks again.

paypal would be the safest way..but some sller like ishibashio doesn't accept paypal..they'll take the payment from ur card directly...

That would have been funny had it actually been in context, kid.
