hello all =) well after so many years of using multi efxs, i'm thinking of moving to greener pastures in search of tonal flexabilty, so i seek help from you kind folks in soft, i wanna build up a pedal board that is of flexability and versatility

so what pedals would you reccomend? i play alot of rock-ish stuff and light rock stuff, what are the pedals that should get to start? my budget is about 600 to 800 bucks,

and what are usually the "staples" of a pedal board? like must haves in the chain. eg dist or OD's, Delays all that.

hoping that i could maybe get tips from you guys and maybe names of pedals i can consider and are within my budget to build up my board =)

once again sorry for this long post ( its rambly) haha but anyways heres a happy chinese new year to one and all =)

haha, so the summary is what u think u should put in a pedalboard for versatility?
this is only my opinion
tuner: dt-10/lu20
eq pedal: fish n chips
dist: crunch box
odboost:ts808/ocd
modulation: line6MM4
delay:dd20?
chorus:tsunami chorus
reverb: verbzilla
preamp : can try sansamp gt-2-lots of diff tone

I'm trying to build up my pedalboard too! So just pop some questions heh.

Is there like a orderly chain of pedals e.g. dist comes first before chorus etc or vice versa?

What happens if u do it the wrong way? Will the pedals spoil?

welcome to gasland!

the best setup for playing live?

OD
DIRT
DELAY
TUNER

actually it depends on what youre playing. for me. modulation(chorus.phaser.flanger) are just novelty items; however some ppl always use em. so yeah

Depends on your preference!
If you're a metal guitarist, do you need a mild OD?
If you're a jazz player, do you need a high gain distortion?
If you hardly play cleans, do you need a chorus? (of course some play chorus with distortion)
If you want to use your amp EQ only, do you need another EQ pedal?

We gotta know your influences and the tone you're heading for..
No point recommending a Metal Muff when you're going for a Marshall kinda sound..
At the same time, what are your gear? What guitar and amp will the pedalboard go with?

since you've mentioned you've using multi fx, why not use that as a base point on deciding what effects you want and need?

your favourite settings, sounds etc would be good point to start thinking what you need.

wow +1 to that

haha i also just change to analogs after 2yrs of playing with my gt8... now its still half complete...

MXR 6band EQ - tu100 - boss ML2 - Ibanze TS7 - JD dime crybaby

so far all this on the oversize pedaltrain2 pedalboard... waiting for my mi.tubezone ... cruchbox.. a delay pedal and a chorus.... maybe one more OD pedal...? ZW OD?... lolx..

so far loving it... but i still miss the tone i get from my gt8... but analog does push the dist further :)

i tried actaully ;) but i guess i'd like to have you knw a base that i can start frm? figure it might be easier too :D

maybe if you like the tubescreamer that the mutli emulates. you could look lfor a ibanez TS or Maxon OD

or if you like the marshall amp emulation. you could look at a crunchbox

something around those lines

get a decent drive before you start looking for all the fancy effects

hey i'm quite new to efects. i only have a distortion adn chorus. i was thinkiing multi effects is good since it has everything, why would peopel prefer analog ones?

hmm i guess some say it sounds better but for me i wanna experiment with the different effects that can go along with one another and wrk in harmony that kinda thing

a base would be what effects you already use on your multi effects.

say, you're after an andy summers sort of tone (as i've tried to recreate on my pocketPOD), you'll realise that you need to use chorus, flanger, delay, reverb and a nice OD to achieve that tone.

Using that as a base u read up and perhaps ask advice on which chorus, od or delay would be good to achieve such a tone.

For us to recommend you what u need, you need to give examples of the sounds you need are trying to recreate.

just like why people would prefer a manual shift car over an automatic vehicle. It provides greater control over your sound. Also, multi effects are limited by patches, and in most lower-middle range types, you cannot arrange the order of the effects - which does make a diff to the effect achieved. Also, multi effects tend to have a more generic signature.

you see thats the thing, i'm still "chasing after tone", its very general, very broad, what i can tell you is that i'm looking for a versitle tone for i have never dabbled in any individual pedals before, but i guess a breakdown could be i'd like to be able to have soaring lead tones, cruchy rythme tones, smooth overdriven tones, and warm smooth clean tones and in the process having splashes of eg. reverb and the likes coming tgt in harmony that kinda thing. but hey tyhe input that you've given me is useful too =) will consider by walking that path for a bit =)

overdrive, distortion for the rhythm and lead tones u mentioned. delay or reverb for adding some dimension. there's no short cut really, u have to try the pedals to know what u want and like.....scour ard the buy/sell section for 2nd hand pedals...if u don like it u can always sell them away, wont lose much

Are you a analog effect user? i've a modded ds-1 and marshall chorus. what else do you think i need? do you consider Korg ax3000 a middle range multi effects? can give me a few example of low range and high end ones?
