NEWSFLASH:
West Grand Boulevard is sad to announce that Bryan will no longer be fronting the band because of time commitments, including his upcoming National Service. We want to sincerely thank Bryan for being a brother and a bandmate to us in the past year that we've been a band. We still hang out with him and we're all still family, so everything is ok on our side in case you're starting to speculate. We're very excited to welcome our newest member to the family, Daphne! She officially became a member of the band on Friday, 24th February 2006. We're working hard in the recording studio and we begin shooting our first music video 3rd week of March. We intend to have everything ready for launch by June this year. We hope you'll continue to give us your love and support, and we thank everyone who's encouraged and supported West Grand Boulevard along the way. We wouldn't be here without you.

anyone has any opinions on this?

It's the band's decision I guess. I just thought it'd take some time for me to get used to hearing daphne's voice singing those songs instead of Bryan. Haha. All the best to them anyways! I sure am gonna miss his stage antics and voice, of cuz. =)

Oh my. Couldn’t imagine wgb with daphne. Why the intention of having a female vox I wonder. Is it cause one of them is already dating daphne.

Oh well, there is already a really fine young local band with a female vox. We don’t need another one. I feel wgb is just doin it to gain popularity and riding along the waves of daphne’s recognition.

The another female good local band worth mentioning is Auburn’s Epiphany. I feel they are really good for their age. You guys should check them out.

Don’t worry. I am not associated or affiliated with any of these bands. Im just an old tom dick harry who is opening up to local music.

this is the first time i've heard WGB music, really good man, sounds very modern rock to me, not my fav genre, but compared to those modern rock songs heard on the radio n on tv, from international bands, their standard is really there. :D dun think it will do as well with a female vocalist tho, judging from the kind of songs they sing. hmm..i might be wrong.

I would disagree with the part of them doing this just for the popularity or whatsoever. Daphne has been friends with WGB since like ever. and knowing them as friends of mine, i believe they would like her to be the vocalist for the band not just that she's popular but the fact that she can sing plays a big role.

and auburns epiphany is good :) had a talk with them at the Hear Me rock concert in UWC!! friendly bunch

peace

1) yes, it's affected our songwriting. Our 2 new songs are heavier than anything else we've done before.

2) it's not to gain popularity. Bryan is a close friend of ours, and he has been with the band from the start. I find it insulting that you think another singer would take over just so we can gain popularity. We have always believed that a good band will earn a fanbase, and our primary focus has always been to try to put out the best music that we're able to. We don't recruit people as a shortcut to getting attention.

3) Daphne is a great singer and songwriter, and there is a lot of mutual respect on both sides. She's taking a huge paycut to be with the band, and we're all just excited to be working with each other. We've known Daphne for years and she's like a little sister to us. No, none of us are dating her. She's part of the band because we get along very well with her and she really rocks out on the songs. It's a pity most people have only seen the Singapore Idol side of her, where she had to sing pop music all the time. The reality is that Daphne is fully capable of fronting a rock band.

4) "Oh well, there is already a really fine young local band with a female vox. We don’t need another one. "

There are already a lot of fine young local bands with male frontmen. Should we therefore not get a guy to front the band? What a ridiculous argument.

Cheers!

Alright, all the best to your band.

Really looking forward to Auburn’s Epiphany and WGB albums. And obviously Electrico's.

Daphne Khoo!

Everytime I see Bryan entering the stage, I see the future.
He'll be energetic and soaked in sweat.
:D

I don't know why but I feel like quoting something. I think it sounds totally UN-RELATED. But I WANT to say it...
"When one door closes, another opens."

HAHHAHAHAHA. okay.

Geez. We haven't even got to hear Daphne singing their songs yet, so do cut them some slack. From what I've already known, Daphne's a great songwriter. She did use to be in some band before she joined Idols if I'm not wrong. So this is probably nothing new to her. I think the band's gonna be just fine. We just gotta get used to seeing a switch in genders of the frontperson. Putting that aside, it should be good or maybe, even better.

I like sycododo's quote!

Daph

Whenever I hear Daphne's voice, I think of M2M or atomic kitten.

I didnt say its bad, just hope you can find the right balance and direction.

Best of luck!

aiya.. this one not some rockstar INXS to replace michael hutchence. and they're still doing good with the new vox. worse come to worst let the guy throw grenade and finish knockin down for 2 years then rejoin la..

girl sing boy sing same la. as long as your band doesn't suck from here on (which i highly doubt). it's not gonna matter. I don't know daphne or bryan or wgb personally but what are ya critics? sexist? haha. don't you know girls are going to rule the world in the distant future. evolution..

Doc. : "THERE'S NO TIME FOR LUBRICATION!"
Black guy : "THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR LUBRICATION!"

3¢ worth.

its not an issue of sexism here.

The thing here is: This band's music style wont be very fitting with a female voice. Most people who have heard their songs think so too. Yup, u gotta acknowledge that there ARE differences(not necessarily bad ones) between males n females, thats why there humans are classified as males n females in the first place! So the difference in this case puts a female vocalist at a disadvantage due to the band's music style. Nothing sexist about it. hehe... :)
