Broken guitar tuning peg

Hi people, i gotten a congressman acoustic guitar as a birthday present a few years ago as a present. Now that I officially started learing, the string was a bit rusted hence i need to change. While changing my string at swee lee, the whole tuning peg broke off!! The person said it might be because I had never downtune it during the period when I never play it, hence the tension on the guitar as a whole.

Anyone know of any where good that I can actually fixed this issue?

As it is a present from a really close friend, I am hoping that I can get it back as good as new.

you can simply replace the tuning peg itself, should not cost much
