Blisters

blisters in drumming are technically not supposed to happen. take a look at your grip and technique, with some correction, it won't be a problem anymore.

wow.. how did you get blisters man...

if its from playing you really wont get it... but if you constantly trying to do rock twirl... might get a splinter or something.. haha

yeah man i have this recurring blisters on my right hand, middle finger, on the 3rd segment. the only way for me to prevent it is by taping that particular finger when im playing...

how eh?

i tend to loosen up my fingers when im playing.. is this the cause of it? anybody?

I don't have Blister on my hands & Fingers...My friend say I Bery Thick-Skin one  ...nah...jokes aside.

I am not sure if having Blister is a Technical Issue, beacuse I do not know the answer - but would love to know it too.

Someone??????

blisters are common especially when you're at practice for up to four hours. or even a few ours a day. i dont get mine everytime, just on and off. just put a plaster over it so it wont affect your playing. you cant really prevent it.

I have a pair of Zildjian Gloves...thought it's nice....Then get advice from drummers - DO NOT EVER USE GLOVE...to drum or practice....It's no good for the drummer.

This I am sure I am correct here....do not incalcute the bad habit of playing with gloves....Rob bank ok

i get blisters too....
i noe some ppl wears gloves.....but the feel isn't rite lah....

i think it's because ur skin is suffering from usual wear and tear....hehe

i dunnoe i'm not a doctor.....

Try to avoid using Gloves (last resort ---- don't even think about it if possible) Well, I think the first thing is to look at our technique, including how tightly we are gripping the sticks, how much they move around in our hands, and how hard we are playing. Look at our technique first. A majority of problems can be solved this way

Wearing gloves will only treat the symptoms, but the main culprit, wrong technique, will still be there. I'd suggest checking our technique with a drumming teacher..if we have one.

I've never grown blisters or callouses into my hands despite long hours of practicing Rudiments or playing non-stop 3 hours. If the grip is light enough, the stick won't press against the skin hard enough to create callous-inducing friction - blisters.

Dom Famularo and others teach techniques that completely avoids blisters AND callous. The sort of technique that causes callous and blisters is the same that causes wrist problems and more. Very good to avoid. Check out dom famularo and jim chapin teach the moeller technique. verrrrry useful.

Though I'm a rudiment and technique junkie (sorry ) and in my humble opinion, blisters aren't a direct indication of actually improper technique too. It can also means you have switched sticks or you've been practicing your ass off.....hahahaha. (all these I learn from DrummerWorld one)....Kekekekeke

I guess - I make you all more Blurr...izzit

All good drummers have rough skin due to blisters, trust me. Old school is the best way to go. Just feel it and play it, dont bother about the blisters, just have a good plaster on it.

Just take it with a pinch of salt.

There's a risk in everything that we do including drumming.

Blisters help in such a way that the surface area of the skin that's healed after the blister, will be harder and tougher.

Ultimately, No Pain No Gain!

Just some of my personal experience about this :)

If you're only practising/jamming for like 30min and get blisters everytime, chances are, you are playing too hard (or using the wrong technique).

But if you jam for like 3 hours straight and get blisters, well, personally I think it's very possible.

I used to get blisters very easily, even just jamming for an hour. Until I realised I was whacking wayyy too hard. Killing the drums only lah

It's a lot better after rectifying those bad habits though. Don't really get any blisters even after 3 hour sessions.

Think of it this way. If you get blisters after long sessions, it's somewhat like the callous guitarists get on their fingertips after some time. Your hands become 'seasoned' from it.

Some people say musicians will never have nice looking hands. I think that's quite true

Maybe..Blister or No Blister depends on Individual (Whether it has anything to do with Techniques - not too sure).....

I myself if I do Rudiments for 3 hours or more (non-stop just 1 minutes break say every 20 minutes for instaces) or Jamming 3 hours non-stop - I really never encounter blister before....I don't know why.....just my muscle gets a little tense up that's for sure.

now i myself have some blisters on my left hand middle fingers. but its help in a way to harden the area like my right hand use to (now the blister area at my right hand is hard and no more blister).

maybe my left hand grip is still not correct.
