Bigsby. Worth it?

Hi all im thinking of whether i should get a bigsby to be setup on my orville lespaul.

Looks alright for sure thing is i have a friend who installed one and realised there were alot of flaws with the tremolo design itself. For one there would be an additional friction point between the strings and the bridge resulting in him having to get a roller bridge to solve the problem. secondly the strings would constantly go out of tune.

Moreover the bigsby does not have a wide bending/sweeping range as compared to other tremolos. Do advise me my good people (;

Well, Bigsby's are good for giving sustain and that vintage look to ur guitar. Unless u wanna use the Bigsby to dive bomb, its best not to install. For me, I used to have a Casino with Bigsby and had to use a roller bridge to keep the strings in tune. Even when I rotate the arm, I noticed my strings would go slightly flat.

I'd say go for the Bigsby if u wana give ur guitar that vintage look and added sustain. :)

Hmm thanks for referring me to dudelove guys but i know him personally and i have of course asked him regarding his take on the bigsby. Im sure there are more bigsby owners out there. Care to share?

there's this guy on tgp. his nick is eagle1. he HATES anything that has a bigsby on it. its so bad, its to the extent of HATE. so it gets irritating cos whenever someone starts a thread relating to bigsby's, he'll barge in and tell the person dont do it.

but the thing is he backs his statements up. after i installed mine, i started to realise that what he says is totally true. the bigsby b7 installed on a les paul is a design flaw by itself.

i myself thought how can it be. ppl like neil young love it. but i read up an interview. the interviewer asked neil young how he keeps his les paul in tune with so heavy usage of the bigsby. he replies, "it doesnt".

if u see that thread i started, whitestrat is perfectly correct. the bigsby is an ancient design.

i blew abt 400bucks on that thing. i dont know whether i regret it or not. firstly it looks so damn good to me, but the cons that come with it are not small little flaws that go unnoticed.
