Hi Guys

My close friend recently traded his Epiphone Les Pual w EMG81, 85 pickups with this guy for his MIA black fender strat with noiseless pickups.

nick's Gin Lee Han Lin
H/p 81189486
Email gin-hanlin@hotmail.com
Thru his email i found his facebook account!!!
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/profile.php?id=100000250579801&ref=search&sid=510933083.619165244..1

Scenario: Shortly after my close friend posted his epi for sale, Gin called him up saying he wants to trade urgently as he needs a 'harsher' sounding guitar for his school gig the next day.Needless to day, the deal went through as my friend trusted the words of this guy Gin..

A few days after trading, my friend met another friend who is a tech and surprise surprise, he told him that it's fake!! After repeated tries of contact this 'gin', he finally replied my friend. His initial story was that he got cheated as well as he traded it with another guy. Subsequently, he claimed my friend made a mistake and that he was not 'gin' but 'tam' (wad the???).

I suspect he might have a link with the 'justin' that was mentioned in the threads below mine.

Beware, he is currently selling my close friend's guitar:

Cut the long story short,i accompanied my friend and made a police report and went to the Subordinate Court to make a case. Too bad for this guy, we will not let the case off so lightly.

Hope this would serve as a heads up for other fellow softies.

Cheers

I understand your feelings bro.. he bought my guitar at 675 when he said he has not enought cash.. its going at 750 to 800 neg.. well, soft hearted so i let it be.. turns out the next day, i saw it posted in soft.. selling at 800-900 neg if im not wrong.. anyway i think he is dam good at lying..

Got my new guitar and i have no regrets.. so i'll let the matter rest.. i realise he is buying guitars cheap and selling it at a more expensive price..

Taiwan chap..........

well, soft hearted so i let it be..

we tend to be like this because we know we are dealing with SOFTies, yes? but then again, it doesn't pay to be kind, sometimes...

buy-sell should have a paid membership. maybe 10 bucks or something. hell i cant even watch a movie with 10 bucks nowadays. so people wont just open up scammer clone accounts

Maybe, but sometimes it also turns off other sellers like myself. I always sell my items for way cheap, and still get lowballed. In the end it's not even worth selling any more.

Or sometimes you cut price so much you bleed money cause no one wants to buy/wait and hope you cut price more, especially when urgent sale. Yeah, bro DeathCubeK, i get your drift. No, i don't think paid memberships are the solution. It depends on each of us-observe the market trends and price your guitar accordingly. For example, I think Epi LPs are going for around 650 now? So if you get an offer of 500, well, it's definitely lowballig, so be careful.

That is not a scam. When I think of the word "scam", words like "fraud" and "swindle" come to mind. I think "scam" entails some kind of deception. Selling an epi at 700 bucks when it retails for $800 isnt scam. How low you want? $400? I think the price is still "reasonable" although it may not be the most appealing to buyers.

I think shinobi's idea of paid membership is a good idea. At least, it can deter some of the real scammers, wholesalers, and multiple account users. However, one of its downside is that it may lose its appeal for those honest peeps who infrequently buy/sell/trade equipments.

Well... a 2nd hand for 700 -> 800 nego? Guess again bro. would u buy tat?
and i think the scam is the 'fake' fender i guess

I wouldnt buy doesnt mean that it is a scam, no? It will be a scam if proven that the traded MIA Fender Strat is not genuine.

After all, this Gin offers to trade his MIA Fender Strat with the Epi, and the MIA Fender Strat generally has a higher trade value than the Epi. In other words, it seems like a darn good deal for the TS's friend. Since it is such a good deal, why you buy that? Why not, right?

Anyway, I notice that this Gin goes around saying that he needs to buy/sell/trade this or that urgently, when in fact he is not in a rush. It seems that he is more in a rush to make a quick profit. Generally, I stay away from those urgently WTS/WTB threads. There are those who urgently WTB an item, but they have very very very low willingness to pay, so what are the chances of them getting the items quick? And for those urgently WTS threads, they urgently want to have cash, but their prices are not attractive. It will make more sense that they price their items lower so that the items move faster, no? Having said that, it doesnt mean that urgently WTS/WTB = selling very cheap/willing to buy at high price. It doesnt mean that we can exploit their urgency either.
