Best pianist/keyboardist

how about george gershwin ??

the father of american blues and jazz music... without lyrics first fo course.. then came ray charles and the rest....

Composers/Pianists

Scriabin - arguably the first jazz composer. Weird and mystical

Shostakovich - not far behind with his marching style symphonies (not for easy listening) :)

Gershwin - the man who made jazz famous

oh boy? the people meniotned above are of course great pianists of our time in the classical field, but are we in this thread talking about comptempoary keyboardist/pianist?

we're talking abt both, i guess...personally, i'm more interested in contemporary pianists..so yeah, any recommendations?

Yoshiki Hayashi and Maksim 8)

Anyways Franz Liszt was considered a rock star during his time and so he's one of my favourite classical pianist.... :)

I wouldnt call nobuo uematsu -- the guy who did ff series a great keyboardist or pianist, i would call him a great composer :).. if u've seen him live in the black mages band ( nobuo's band playing ff music rock ), u'll notice his skills are good, but not great, there are many people better than him in playing ( technically ) , but im his true fan/idol , cause his composing just roxx me and i aspire the next him =p..

i agree. he's a brilliant composer.

http://www.hmv.co.jp/index.asp?lang=en
(it contain some english also...)
however, if you want ENGLISH site,
you can try www.cdjapan.co.jp, which is the english site of www.neowing.co.jp

However,
if you want PURELY ENGLISH site,
then go www.amazon.com, but My personal advise is not worth.
(due to currency & shipping)

another alternative to consider is www.yesasia.com,
although the price mark up abit, but you will enjoy free shipping if you order above US$50/=

Eh... off thread liao...

I think he is much capable of handling more intricate melodies before he was head hunted for superstardom.

I don't believe that he himself , being considered a talented pianist at a young age of 4, can be playing pieces which are not really that intricate at his age now. In other words , the melodies he plays on stage and TV just sounds too simple for someone who has been playing the piano for 20 years.

But nonetheless , I use to look up to him as my source of inspiration.... :)
