What do you guys think is the best electric guitar to play the blues? fender strap? gibson les paul? are those the two best ones?

Les Paul is great...
Strat is versatile...

Eric Clapton uses Strat
Slash uses Les Paul
Les Paul uses Les Paul...:P

so u cant really put them and compare...more like preference to feel and sound i guess...

i think the les paul kinda blues is very different from the strat kinda blues, both give very different tone, so somehow it'll give different styles .So its depends what kinda blues you are into.

i can make a strat sound like a les paul, and a les paul sound like a strat

so...the bottom line is tone is in the fingers!!!!!

but.....playability is another thing

really? how?
i tried very hard to make the les paul sound like a strat, in the end i gave up and i got a squier strat.

haha yea my bad typo error..STRAT..not strap..hmmm depends what kind of blues your into?..what kind of blues is meant for strat and what kind of blues is meant for a les paul?

les paul is more for the rock kinda blues, single coiled strat is more for the blues kinda blues,

Of course can u use either guitar to play any kind of the blues as long you dont mind the tone.

Les Paul's kinda blues was more in his style of playing rather than his guitar. The way a person vibratos a note can really accent the bluesyness of his music. At the end of the day, fingers people, fingers... Or, you can go back to the olden days where blues started and just stick to finger style blues on an acoustic guitar... Wonders man!

blues ah? last time clapton play les paul then SG for a short while, after that strat all the way. I used to play a les paul also, but then got sick of it of its weight and sound not bluesssy bloos blues enough so bought a strat and never looked back.

Look around at all the blues players out there. There is no "best" guitar for blues. The answer is whatever suits the player in terms of feel and tone. SRV and EC play strats (currently in EC's case); BB King plays Lucille (compare to an ES 335); Albert Collins, Muddy Waters and Roy Buchanan both played teles (and in my opinion, these guys sound like the blues should sound); etc etc. Of course you can play blues with a Les Paul (Jimmy Page - for example, though he used a tele early on).

Personally I use a strat (with a strap!) most of the time for blues, although sometimes I really enjoy playing blues on my tele or Asat, using a the twang to cut through...
