Best guitar for beginner

in my humble opinion, you can get squier sound with yamaha pacifica at half the price. in fact better. if you don't believe, ask beez for a demo. i saw someone played squire at asianbeat heats couple years ago. it was bad....really bad....
a lot of metalheads use jackson guitar. sounded ok for me.

go to http://www.harmony-central.com and check out the reviews yourself.

ah, it never stops does it? Squier bashing...

this is my Nth time perhaps, defending the Squier... why do i bother, i don't get guitars for FREE by saying anything favourable for the brand name? well at least it'll difuse some hostility towards the brand which everybody lables as a loser from the start...

it all boils down to which Squier you acquire, early '90s model which should be avoided at all cost IMO or the Y2K (or thereafter) models which were products of thoughtful revision by the company. if anyone dismisses the Squier name today, chances are they were given dud units to try out, or they are simply too proud to try out the current batch of revised models, so their archaic opinions incline towards the dismissive.

i'm not saying that everybody should repent now & embrace all things Squier- NO. i'm trying to let you know if you've been having second thoughts about certain brand names because your grandfather said so, chances are, he might be wrong.

i hope i've not offended anyone here... if i did, please PM me 8)

yeah enough of squier bashing... lets tok more about beginners guitars.... one place very good to get a guitar is Lutheir .... i forgot the name of the brand he sells..spainish or korean one i think. but i think its good cos the uncle there very Zia... i feel he will personnally help u to find a guitar that suits u instead of the most expensive one...especially since u are a beginner you will not know what to look out for... worth giving it a try..

try not to go yamaha or swee lee... not that they are not good... but cos they big so sometimes i feel that the info given by the ppl there not good enough cos they can't possibly know every guitar...

best is if u go down with a good friend of urs who is really zia...not in terms of playing skill type but those with alot of experince and his guitar knowhow is good...

thx for all the comments man...walk pass swee lee today...den saw a cople of Ibanze...den saw the RG270 model...kinda cheap...looks great too...anyone got this guitar??isit good?

it's worth to spend a little bit more to get either a jap made ibanez (RG450/470 for e.g.) or one of the '03 or '04 korean ibanez's like SZ or S..those are really good for the price..

I personally wouldn't recommend a guitar with a floating bridge to a beginner. Firstly, he probably wouldn't find the actual need for heavy trem work. Secondly, since the budget isn't too high it probably would come with a substandard trem that goes out of tune easily should he decide to have heavy trem work. Thirdly, changing strings would be his greatest nightmare.

Just my $0.02 worth.

yep stick to fixed bridges or those like on strats

you can get these neck-thrus for $800

you can see how easy it is to play on the upper frets

im considering one too, hopefully by teh end of the year

personally, i'd go for the blue one...one of the MAJOR advantage of 22 frets is that it puts the neck pickup in this sweet spot that makes the tone more nicer compared to a 24 fret one

:smt023 i second that! bridge tone on 22 frets ROCKS YOUR SOCKS!

hmmm... i can't seem to find any neck-thru LTDs which goes for $800... any specific model to cite here? maybe you mean set-neck?

i don't have neck-thru guitars to recommend though, just a set-neck Ibanez SZ320 which is very fine in deed... how much? definitely less than $800...

you can get it @ Swee Lee, i can't quote the exact price here, there's a price revision going on (hint: b4 anymore revision, maybe you should get it already...), but it's definitely about $700+/-. it comes in 2 finishes, the black one pictured above, & the unlacqured natural finish which i bought...

if you can wait, the '05 batch will feature more solid finishes, a gold top included. this year also sees the SZ in a more budget friendly guise, the GSZ (bottom)

I love the natural finish, and the mighty sustain you get from the thru body string.

the natural look is visually stunning but it needs lots of attention because it gets dry pretty quickly, especially in our climate. i give my baby a wood conditioner coating once in 5-6weeks...
