Best Bass under $500?

I'm a little bit on a budget here and would like to ask for your views on any good buys for an electric bass below $500. 4 or 5 string, used or new doesn't matter. Thanks!

at swee lee aljunied there is an epi thunderbird V 5 stringer for about 432 ,... original price was 770 ... but now i suppose clearing stock off ... its damned cheap ... have been eyeing it lately ... LOL ... go try it i suppose... but the body is a damned weird design i must say ...

Gerald, do audition the OLP basses, i like the maple fretboard feel. the 4-string models list for under $500 @ Davis...
