Have been thinking to buy a guitar but don't know what to get. I've seen good reviews for yamaha pacifia 112v. Also SVguitars have swings which I've heard are affordable and sounds good. Or maybe fender squire

What is your budget, type of music you want to play and what guitars do your favourite players use?

With absolutely no info whatsoever on you, my generic recommendations would be Swing S Series (~$300 new), Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster or Stratocasters (~$350 used) and the yamaha pacifica is good as well. These are guitars I would have no problems using myself, in fact im looking out for squier cv strat and tele :)

Glad to see an enthusiastic new player and softie :)

My budget is around 400-600 including amp, strap, case, tuner, strings and metronome. I would like to play rock/metal maybe a little jazz. However knowing strats and tele can't play metal, I don't mind buying another guitar in the future when I get better. Also I don't have any favourite guitar players, all I know are slash, jimmy page, jimi hendrix, eric clapton and angus young.

Thanks!:D

get everything used, maybe a yamaha thr10 and a lower end ibby or rally lp copy, cant go wrong with humbuckers on your first guitar

The only problem I have with used guitars is that I don't have enough knowledge to check if the guitar is in proper condition.

Understand. Tbh even new many brands have good value. Such as Swing and Pacifica. The Yamaha THR10 amplifier is also a good deal.

Im sure softies in your area depending on where you stay may be willing to help you. If you have a friend who plays guitar and knows his stuff do bring him along to check the stuff you are buying.

You should be looking for cosmetics (whether the guitar is damaged), electronics (whether it works when plugged in) and any technical issues, such as whether the neck is not straight, whether tuning heads are properly fixed etc.

However knowing strats and tele can't play metal, ...

mine does metal. and beyond.

also, Obituary's Trevor Perez does a Strat for metal. maybe he got it wrong. hmmm... :-)

Totally agree! Strats and Teles are some of the most versatile guitars this side of Hel...

John 5 is a clear example of a Tele gone wild... the Squire version is extremely affordable too!

Oh look! These guys using Strats look kinda familiar, I wonder if they play metal...
