hi everyone!! as the title says, looking for a decent electric guitar that can last me about 3 years or so.. but not too harsh that a beginner can't master it :p

ive been looking at the LTD M-50 recently, but they might be a bit too metal for my taste, could anyone suggest any other guitars?

I have a budget of 1000 for both my electric guitar + amplifier. Thanks for helping out :)

sweet.. u got an awesome budget! i wish i had that budget when i started out.

what kinda music do u play man? i would recommend roland cube for a practice amp. no matter what kind of music played. super bang for buck.

as for guitar, u have a huge range of guitars to choose from because of ur budget. try japanese fenders.

i'm sure u'll still have excess of cash and u could spend it on a couple of pedals.

and trust me, as u progress on as a player i'm sure having the same gear for 3 years is going to be agonizing. u'll soon be struck by GAS..

woops!

oh woops sorry its 1000 ==" you see, im from Malaysia so i meant 2000 ringgit, my bad... with this budget i cant cover a fender strat from japan! sorry back there.. but do suggest as I visit Singapore often so i can check out the shops and all :P

hahahahha.. but i'm still going to stick with my recommendation of the roland cube.

1000 then fender i dont think can already.. maybe u can find a second hand mexican fender strat on the buy/sell sections if u're lucky. still got many other guitars with that kind of budget for sure. just that i'm kinda lazy to think now.. haha

what kind of music do u play man.

hmm.. well, i've listen to mainly mainstream rock, ill just name you some bands,

the fray, fall out boy, switchfoot, lifehouse, snow patrol, the killers, mae, my chemical romance, etc. etc..

rock i suppose :P

Hmm RM2k is around SGD860.. It is definitely worth it to get your first set in S'pore(electric guitars and amps are ridiculously overpriced in Msia don't you agree?)

SGD860 isn't really much to get a BRANDED guitar and amp but if you're hardworking and lucky, you might find some good deals in soft. Although you might want to consider getting a better amp because the amp is more important than the guitar.

I can't really recommend a good guitar or amp because I'm new to guitars too but I have heard alot(and I mean alot) of good reviews on amps like Roland Cube or the Vox VT series.

So do more research before getting your first set and make sure its bought to last.

Hope this helps.

hey thanks! but are guitars and amplifiers alot cheaper in Singapore? so far with the research I've done, there's not much discount between the two. but LTD/ESP guitars here are EXTREMELY expensive (compared to America anyway). if they're cheaper are they REALLY cheaper?

and I've heard of the Roland cubes too, supposedly really good, but their more towards the metal side... im not much of a metal music person so maybe the vox VT are better, they're supposed to be more clean sounding and all... oh yeah, are amplifiers in Singapore cheaper too? If you know the prices then I could compare them to the ones here :)

Yes, Roland Cubes are very good amps. Alternatively, u cld try Sound Drive amps frm Standard Value. They also stock Smash and Timbre guitars, which are right up your alley for those kinda music. U can check out www.standardvalue.com.sg. And the best part is, its in Woodlands, virtually next to the checkpoint. If u stay in JB, jus hop over! With the budget u got, get a Timbre strat, Sound Drive SG-15R amp and the Mike Mod DS-1 Live Turbo. The perfect setup for ur budget, IMHO.

Or, u can try Schecter guitars at G77 in Peninsula Plaza, i recommend the Omen 6, no-frills guitar that handles all genres pretty ok. Great value too. The Fender Japan strats remain an option too of course, along with the Ibanez RG321MH, although it might be a little on the 'metal-ly' side. Other options for guitars wld be maybe Epiphone LPs or Corts.

Amp-wise, a simple, 15W amp will do. The aforementioned amps are good choices, although if u plan to invest in a few pedals, the Vox Pathfinder 15R is the best small practice amp out there for pedals or even multi-efx.

Hope this helps, go try out all the gears mentioned by the friendly ppl here and let ur ears do the deciding. And dun let urself succumb to a GAS attack! Happy hunting!

Gear-Acquisition-Syndrome: The term used to describe the inexplicable want to buy all the guitar gear u dream of, at any cost. It attacks suddenly, without reason or warning and only the strongest of individuals can resist it.

Jus kidding lar, its slightly less serious than the abovemention but u get my meaning ya?

SLIGHTLY less serious is the key... Man. When it comes, there's no stopping until you have all the gear you need! Oh my... here it comes again! Gah! Mesa Triple Rectifier!
