hi pals,

i'm a beginner and wish to get a electric guitar so i'm scouting for a practice amp too

my budget is around 130-180

i'm looking at the following
1) Rage 158 Guitar AMP - 140 at swee lee
2) VOX Pathfinder 15R - 168 at luther
3) 2nd hand roland cube 15 - around 180 +++
4) LG20R 15 Watt Guitar Amplifier - 154 at sweelee
5) roland Micro-CUBE Guitar Amplifier - 212 at sweelee (slightly out of budget)

pls recommend! thanks!

i think the roland cube 15 and vox pathfinder are better among those. though the vox doesnt get much distortion so you might wanna get a distortion pedal along with it. cube 15 with the inbuilt effects would also be good for you

i'm using the pathfinder and i think it's awesome. but like they said, you probably might wanna invest in a distortion pedal.

To start off, i applaud the threadstarter for doing everything detailed in the posting guidelines sticky. If only more ppl wld be like u. My vote wld go to the Pathfinder 15R for sheer tone, versatility and price. This is considered by many to be one of the best practice amps around. Instead of the microcube, u cld try the Vox DA5 also frm citymusic. I think it sounds better than the microcube and it has some wicked stuff in it. The cube 15 wld also be a gd choice but if u wanna use multi-efx or stompboxes 4 ur main sources of efx, then the pathfinder is better. To answer im-jk's qn, the Laney HCM30R shld be around that price range. Call them to find out.

I ve got the DA-5, someone told me its bassier than the microcube.. yeah i do agree that its quite bassy but i dunno how it fair against the microcube..

but honestly speaking.. i dun like it when its connected to my headphone... without the headphone, i think it still rock @$$ for a little beast like that.. the price is pretty decent too after the CK sales...

If u get either the microcube or DA-5, it ll be a good choice for u to explore effect... and get only those which u need when u have a better knowledge of effects and need some gigs later..

if u get the pathfinder, u ll have to get an effect soooner or later and experiment with it... i m assuming u dun have one now since u are a beginner..

But pathfinder will last u quite a long time since u can pratically do alot of stuff with it, not to forget ther is also built in reverb and tremolo for u.. get it with the footswitch and it ll be a freaking versatile amp...

LAST BUT NOT LEAST... VOX IS FOR THE BLUESS

thanks for the advice !

but .. i'm a true blue noob ... those effect thingy, i dont really knows ...

i think i'll get a 2nd hand path finder ba :D

anyway, i'm planning to get a 2nd hand epiphone LP special II between 100-200 as practice guitar, is it ok? or any pros have any other recommendation ? :)
