if you are to perform in band publicly, usually the band members prefer you to have a fender.

else, anything goes.

my regular gear is yammy bb-615. chose this because of the versatile tone.

fender also got different grades of fender
ts are u comparing fender as in fender jap/usa or squeir?
if squier than no need to get stuck, the choice is clear BB414
i love both my old squier & yamaha basses, but i missed my yamaha more!

or u can ask musican77, he got them all.. hehe

Hey there. Is Fender Pbass crafted from MIJ better than MIM? why is it so? and i realise their price range are way different.

there are 2 school of thought,
first, let sub help us on this issue-

when it comes to fender, it's not about the price bracket.
the Jap may exceed the Mex in terms of construction, fit & finish but it's not conclusive.
with reference to guitars, the mex re-issue Classic series are superb, surpassing its american conterparts in some aspects.
it also boils down to snob appeal also.
some people can't be seen with nothing less than a Jap model at least,
despite knowing that the so called 'lesser' mex offerings are good instruments in its own right.
u can read more on that here,
http://soft.com.sg/forum/gear-guitar/1716-fender-american-jap-mexico-jazz-bass.html

second school of thought...
cant think of anything to write abt yet.. lol anyway,
let us show support for all our 3rd world guitar makers.. indonesia, singapore, russians.. etc

Yo,

MIJ construction and sound is worth the money. Mexico the quality not as good to me compare with Jap.

If your budget is ard $600-700, you can consider the BB414, body is Alder. But if the pickup spoil, you cant change to another brand, but need to send back to Yamaha. PJ pickup, nice tone.

If you can spend ard $1.5k, choose the Fender Bass, get the MIJ, Ash body. You can still upgrade the pickup or add an onboard preamp (if necessary), but i find Jazz bass more versatile than P-bass.

Squier Bass these days are Indon, quality varies but the Vintage Modified Squier Bass sounds good if cant afford to get Marcus's model.

Depends what you want and how much you wanna spend. Can explore other brands like Ibanez, MTD, Lakland and etc. Have u tried the Korean bass called Swing?

Cheers

imho yamaha mij, mit or mii all got consistent quality control
thats why i like, iicr the last mii bb i got use japan electronics?

edit-
as for fender guitars, recent mim productions have improved quite a lot too.. yes?

it depends lah. at the end of the day they are different factories and the guitars are actually built to totally different specs. so it's definitely not just the same thing built in different countries.

fender japan and fender co. are not only different factories but in essense, different companies. that explains why their guitars can be built very differently. this is in contrast to other manufacturers who could have factories in various countries but are still owned by the same company.

therefore, while fender japan and fender co. may both replicate a vintage model, their interpretation can be very different. and then there are models that each company produces that the other doesn't.

one obvious difference is the PICKUPS. fender japan uses dimarzios or 'USA vintage', which are unique to fender japan guitars. the dimarzios built for fender japan can't even be found in dimarzio's product line.
