EMGs are pretty popular. Some people like to throw in a Bartoni for a different sound.

Tone is subjective, there's no "best". Depends on what you are looking for. As mentioned, EMGs & Bartolini are popular. So are Dimarzios & Duncans. Some other notable bass pickup manufacturer's include Aero & Nordstrand, but they do cost more.

A Bartolini appeals to me as they are used in Modulus basses, but like u said, it depends on how i like the tone..

Seymour Duncans are a safe bet, so are Bartos...

I'm currently using DiMarzio Model P n J

The tone is quick sweet and it's quite high output.

I'm using it for metal, rock, funk, blues etc.

But I would love to try an EMG or Bart to see if they are really worth it.

for me,dimarzio is good enuff,but seymour duncan's hot jazz seems to be better than dimarzio's jazz imo =)

Wellz, the only way to test it is in a bass PU shoot out!

Compare all major brands PU that have smilar output etc.

But nobody in singapore is insane enough to try =(
