It would definitely benefit more if you have a teacher. That way he/she will monitor and guide you through your playing and also help you root out any mistakes and bad habits you might make in while you learn.
In my day I had no internet installed and had to rely on myself, guitar mags and very few friends to learn. If I had a teacher I would have gone far from where I am now. But God is merciful and now I have enough skill to learn advanced stuff. By right I am now on a Trinity RockSchool grade 5-6 learning syllabus but I bought the grade 8 exam material and am self studying it, just need practice.
Oh yeah, NoMiS (Simon Lai) is also a teacher and I was taught under him before. Good teacher with a great teaching techniques. You can give him a PM if you're interested.
