It's easy to do underrated. It's difficult as hell to do overrated. How do you know a band is overrated unless you've gone through their entire discography and such?
A few underrated bands I like which I think don't get enough exposure, or maybe just in Singapore(the ones in the brackets are the ones from a same genre/time that seem to be huge though:
Alice in Chains(Nirvana gets all the grunge time)
The Clash(people prefer Ramones and Sex Pistols)
Black Sabbath(everyone likes Ozzy, no one cares too much about 70s Sabbath. People tend to prefer Dio Sabbath or some other band of the time like Led Zep or Deep Purple)
Judas Priest(Iron Maiden is HUGE here, but Priest, one of the greatest NWOBHM bands, don't have all too many fans in sg)
Danzig(here only because the song Blood and Tears has been playing in my head non-stop for days)
Metal Church and Testament.
Once again this is more of a Singapore context.

yeah bro i meant the general public's view. I guess Priest were way earlier, but they always get lumped into NWOBHM somehow. My bad.

I so VERY VERY MUCH agree with you. The Clash is definately an underrated band. I say The Ramones and especially Sex Pistols were in it for the money.

Anthrax were part of the Big 4 of Thrash, what underrated you talking bout?

Not here on Soft, it isn't!
But among the teenage / youth population, YES. Metal is under-rated. Why? Because of Metalcore and Screamo!!! :evil::evil::evil:

And yeah I don't think any of the big four of thrash are under-rated, except... was Exodus part of the big four? I can't remember, to be honest. Testament seems to get more attention than Exodus. Testament wasn't in the big four but got a lot of attention, almost as much as the big four... Under-rated thrash metal bands? I'd say Sodom, Destruction, Vio-lence and Nuclear Assault.

because if there ain't none than it's baseless.

I think I know who started this thread and Metallica being overrated: Dave Mustaine. Admit it Diamond Dave, you're still bitter about getting kicked out (trivia: Did you know that a photographer got the news that he was going to be kicked out by the band even before Mustaine knew about it?)
Jokes aside, its an argument that will go on and on forever. For instance, I love Satyricon but people might diss me saying that "They are being mainstream and following the likes of Dimmu and CoF" and I will still listen to Satyricon because my ears are the ones listening to the band and supporting them throughout the years, not some kid teaching me what black metal should be all about. Not even if its Burzum (no, I will not burn churches with you mister, find someone else). In the end, its the music that matters and even with polarising views from different people, all of us have the luxury to enjoy both their early works and the current albums

Overall Metal is underrated la nowadays every gig oso black metal this, death metal that, screamo la, metalcore la, can't we have some decent headbanging metal. Make me so kek-sim.

so much talk about overrated-ness and underrated-ness. still ,in the end its just comes down to a simple discussion of "bands i like vs bands i dont like". There no objective measure of overratedness or underratedness anyway. I can say that lady gaga is extremely underrated, and theres no objective way which you can prove me wrong.
Which is why i feel the whole series of overrated/underrated threads are pointless, and 'OVERRATED'.
Seriously why not just change the topic to "bands i like vs bands i dont like". It'll be less controversial, less offending.

Actually, I personally feel that the black album is still ok... but I think the stuff after that is really really... not to my liking... (I NEVER SAID OVER-RATED)
lolwat. no over/under rated bands, but got overrated threads. hmm.

I doubt it. Probably just as offensive because often, people say some bands rock and some bands suck and then you'll get arguments as well...

Yeah those 4 mentioned are the Big Fours but some would rather have Pantera instead of Anthrax .
