Bands..

There's been some talk of some over-rated and under-rated guitarists...So now i want to start talking about the whole band itself...Hope you guys can give me some of your opinions...

Here's my over-rated and under-rated bands:

Over-rated: Metallica (Ask someone whether he listens to metal and i keep hearing him say Metallica...Is it just because the word "metal" is in "metallica"?) Guns n Roses (no Slash = fail), Boys Like Girls, Click Five and all of the lame rockers who only attract ladies... Hmm, can't think of more..I'll add more soon...

Under-rated: Alter Bridge, Scorpions, Foo Fighters, Steelheart (Michael Matijevic has superb vocals), metal bands which lived in the shadow of the almighty Metallica...

i like MayheM, i think they are underrated, but so someone else, they may like Emperor and think that MayheM is overrated, and vice versa. get it?

No, it's because it's a metal band and people actually do listen to them. (SHOCKER!) Also, you not liking a band doesn't automatically make them overrated, not many people care about what your taste in music is and I'm sure they wouldn't judge their own tastes using yours as a measure.

And Foo Fighters, underrated? Really? Six Grammys isn't enough recognition? Don't get me wrong though, I love the Foo Fighters.

From the metal side of things...

OVER-RATED
Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Hammerfall, Dream Theater.

UNDER-RATED
Origin, Napalm Death, Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Evergrey, Death, Kamelot, Cephalic Carnage, High on Fire and most of the stoner bands.

From the metalcore side of things... I'd say the whole genre is overrated. No offense, but that's the way I feel, and if you're offended and think I should share the same view as you, then too bad. I don't like metalcore and I'm not afraid to say so. When someone mentions 'metal', Bullet for my valentine, A7x come to mind. What about the real brutal deal that's heavy, groovy, kickass from start to finish?

No offense to anybody. I like some over-rated bands as well. There's nothing wrong with liking over-rated bands. It is just a fact that they steal the attention away from other bands which may be equal or even better in your eyes.

From the alt-metal / nu-metal / side of things.

Over-rated: Linkin Park*, Slipknot, Mushroomhead, Disturbed, Static X.

Under-rated: Blindspott, Sevendust, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Sick Puppies, SOIL.

*Early Linkin Park. Their stuff from Minutes to midnight and newer are no longer nu-metal and are more original. Excellent stuff. But there nu-metal stuff... there're better bands, at least to my ears.

Once again, nothing wrong with over-rated bands. It is just that under-rated bands need more attention too, but they aren't getting the recognition they deserve.

Over-rated: Hinder, Shinedown, Coldplay, Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Nickelback.

Under-rated: Fuel, Soul Asylum, Kris Allen , Arcade Fire, Snow Patrol.

Guns n Roses

Haha. I like Slash, but I never liked Guns 'N' Roses. I very, very much prefer Velvet Revolver.

Some under-rated classic rock / metal bands in my opinion: Alice Cooper, WASP, Whitesnake, Poison.

Overated: Muse, Gun N Roses, Van Halen, Eagles, Aerosmith, U2

Underated: Big Star, Clann Zú, Envy, UFO, Boris, Slint

metallica has been over rated after AJFA.

good call on dream theater being over rated, there was a period of time when everybody was wearing dream theater t-shirts, but i don't think the adulation reflects how good they are. they have some great songs, but many more boring ones.
