Band, moving to originals?

Hi, newbie guitarist here with a newbie band.

We are ok with covers, covered quite a number of times already. Is it time to move to originals?

I feel really no motivation. 2 years old band, constantly changing members and now getting our "final" lineup.

Don't even know if its final, very shaky. Suggested about joining some competition, i guess this will "push" the motivation but my members objected to it. Say we "not ready". Then when is ready? When we have originals?

how old are you?..

personally ive just joined a band as a keyboardist not too long ago, maybe a few months, but im getting along very fine and we joined the school of rock competition :)... we are all related by frens and families so its all good, how come ur members keep changing? You guys should try to find ppl around ur age who can commit to the band ;)...

As for moving into originals, if u can come up with good ones, go ahead :), depends on whats ur objectives for the band

17? My age grp in my band super wide. 17-25... oldest 25 i think. one going for PhD... one working. 3 studying. sigh

i feel that playing originals totally depends on a band's drive and determination to write them.

if you have the D&D, you can surely write something you'd be proud of. my band are moving into originals sooon, but we're still playing a few K.I.S.S., B182 covers here and there, as tribute to these great guys.

To me a band is ready when each is comfortable playing with one another and knows each other's style well enough.

Makin originals all boils down to each member's desires and goals. Do you want to be a fun jam band or one which gigs constantly.Drive and determination will come naturally if individual member has great desire and goals to go somewhere in the local music scene or at least gig regularly.

imo i think internet is the key thing now. wad i do is to record sample licks and rhythms and send it over...while my other bandmate fills in his part on it. so it's kinda like a relay system.

well tones can be said abt this! personally, i play one or 2 covers to learn the particular skill or technique! so depends! well let me enlighten u! u play wat u play! they play wat they play! so don let em get u down in anyway! cos u have ur own speciality and they have thier own! nobody and play the same as each other! i maybe be good in lead, he maybe good in rhythm! so it varies! do ur best to learn a skill or technique that u wanna include in a song! like a pull off or a hammer on or stuff like that u know wat i mean pal!!!!! chill out! relax! and take it slow! cos one ting u have to know is dat in singapore, its damn tough to get recognised! its a land of paper chase and money! if we were in USA where we could exploit our musical talents, most of us would be on the level of steve vai or malmsteen! some to say the least! but sadly we're not like that! they eat shit and sleep music! they play every single second of their life! well so much said! hope ive helped clear somethings! cheers! :D
