I use em, and adore them.

for 2.1 i recommend creative & the above. superb bass.

for 5.1 and above, altec lansing is for you. if ur on a budget, rmmbr to get the ones priced above 150 though, coz any cheaper than tht, most dont deliver as how a 5.1 should.

never get 3.1 or 4.1 systems. 3.1 superceded by 2.1s, n 4.1 by 5.1s.

hi, i've tried the altecs pictured above. i would recommend it. also tried the klipsch promedia series. great for gaming, excellent bass response. but for just a little more, why no try the Acoustic Energy Aego2? great all rounder, for both music and games. the newer model costs a bit more, but the older model, which is essentially the same, is about $299 now. selling at sim lim square, 1st floor, sorry can't remember the shop name.

some folks will go to the extent of upgrading their desktop speaker cables, which was the route i followed as well but sound difference is really minimal imho. just did it for fun out of curiosity. heh.

just get a $50 creative soundblaster audigy. dont really need all those ultra or high-end cards that cost ard 100 to 500 bucks. and today's motherboards come with newer onboard sound systems (no more via ac'97!) tht should suffice..there wouldnt b a need for an upgrade.

The Aego is very good. There was a time when the HWZ was buying it. That time think cheaper than $299.
