Hey acoustic gurus there,

Have you come across these soundhole pickups that can be attached to the acoustic temporarily? Any thoughts? Where in local stores can we find these, and how much?

yes, this one:

check it out @ Davis...

You can visit Maestro outlets. I bought a soundhole pickup from them before and even used it live. Sounds pretty good. And it costs less than $50.

I also have the Seymour Duncan Woody, as Subversion mentioned. It sounds really good, but note that it's quite big and won't be able to fit into smaller soundholes. It retails at around $129 brand new, I think.

ah eugene, so what's the difference between your "pretty good" and "really good"? Is one more good than the other? hehehehhee

Yup. There's a difference.

The Stagg pickup is much cheaper, but the Seymour Duncan Woody sounds better. At least to my ears. :)

Seymour Duncan Woody SC

Likes: Good, natural sound. Looks natural as well because of the maple wood shell.

Dislikes: Big, so might not fit smaller soundholes. Also, the cable is permanently fixed into it.

Form: Looks like a small bar of maple wood wedged in the soundhole (as seen in the pic Subversion posted) with a 1/4" cable running out from it directly.

Stagg

Likes: Very cheap, sounds decent. Can use your own 1/4" cable.

Dislikes: Looks like the singlecoil pickup on an electric guitar. A bit troublesome with all the wires.

Form: Singlecoil pickup that is wedged between the edges of the soundhole and tightened with a screwdriver. A thin wire runs from it to the 1/4" jack which is hung at the endpin of the guitar.

Personally I prefer the Woody as it sounds better, and it is simpler, easier and less troublesome to install. However, my main gripe for it is that it fits only a limited range of soundhole sizes.

woah!

what happened to the Baggs M1!! one of the best if you ask me! available at Davis or GG i think.. 200+ but i used it for a good 2 years and I loved it, woody and stagg... not even in the same league.

The Fishman Neo-D ain't bad either but I feel an active system is best for magnetic pickups.. so you'd wanna look at the Rare Earth.
.
Davis also has the Magnetic pickup called the tri-ax.. basically the Baggs M1 but in black

These 3 would top anything above ^^

Aiya...... never say earlier. I place order with Amazon alr. Yea I saw the Neo-D before, but it seemed troublesome!

Neo-D must screw.... Woody just fit the thing in. funny u never mention rare earth, but that one too invasive already imo. I ordered the Woody single coil one - let's hear how it will sound like.

At the end of the day, acoustic guitar sound live probably has to be through condenser mic... I think the pros combine 2 or more options at once. hahaha

screw is not an issue la really...

mm woody.. ok hope u like it.. my friend bought one and it sounded sad.. but that was like 20,30 bucks so it may not even be the same woody we're talking about haha.

Yeah I use a dual source system as well... it takes alot of experimenting la and knowing your needs and ur playing environment.

20 30 bucks???? you mean US ah? it's the seymour duncan woody sc... haha singapore want to sell close to $80 alr

On another note, do you fingerstyle? how do you deal with nail chipping?

oh? mmm ok maybe closer to 80.. but mm it really din sound good to me leh.. but hopefully u like it la.

Yeah i do abit here and there.. i don't bother to keep nails la.. just do with short nails... don't like long nails as a preference.
