Ashbory Bass

Yes I do.
Bought all my basses in Europe

The Ashbory costed around 300€ 3 years ago. The cheapest bass I ever bought.

Cheers!

talcum powder

Optimal performance is achieved when your hands are lightly dusted in talcum powder. I have even sensed a difference between different powder types. Tried from baby powder to rock climbing talcum (almost pure magnesia).

I do not support your "friction" theory. The sweat of your fingers can be very agressive. The talcum helps you keep the sweating under control, if you don't suffer from adiaphoresis, and let's you slide easy over the rubber.
But this might be dependant on playing style.

Do you play an Ashbory?
Or am I really the only one in this forum? Or even in this country? I don't believe it!

Cheers

Is Detroit in Singapore?

...since there is no Detroit in S'pore it must be Detoit in the US! (Thanks for the hint vernplum)

So, yes, seems I'm the only Ashboy basser in Singapore... :-(

I think it's a great invention but of not much use. Because a lot of professional players and a lot of very experienced player both double bass and electric bass... So the use of ashbory bass is quite minimised...

However, it's an ultra cool and unique instrument to have...

wait if i'm not wrong it was mentioned that this bass is not sold in SG? so... i think its gonna be hard finding a place in SG that sells strings used on a bass that is not sold in SG?

just order lah. dont be scared. local stores are not gonna go bust or anything

I must admit that the Ashbory is not so good for live gigs, it detunes too fast, maybe because of the silicone strings.

I use it mainly for studio recordings because of the super sound and the ease of transportaion (I left my double bass in Europe).

But it is so ultracool that I had to have it! :-)

Me, the market.

Ashbory belongs to Fender and Swee Lee is the official Fender dealer in Singapore according to this site http://www.fender.com/resources/international_distributors.php#Asia
They heard about the bass but don't have it on stock. I didn't ask, but assume that they could get one if you are really serious about buying it.
Unfortunately it is a little bit different with the strings. Swee Lee can get them, no prob, but they will have to go for a bulk order of 12 packs or so. Which they of course will not do because they know the size of this market ...and who besides me should by Ashbory strings????

Ashbory

we refer to the Ashbory bass a "rubber bass" here...
i dont know why, we just do. If you search "rubber bass" you'll get links to the Ashbory.
The strings break because of friction, i broke ONE string 8 years ago and i still can remember my finger feeling like it cracked the string, i use common talk bought at a billiards supply (it comes in a cool looking container).
I find that i have to stand still to play the rubber bass, i love the tone and look but it's a bit impractical.

Surprise!

Something beautiful happened yesterday!
I received a package from my best friend from the other side of the world, also a bass player.

He “felt” like I could need 2 sets of original Ashbory silicone strings and simply sent them.

Actually I could sell one set but since I am the “rubber bass” market of S’pore I expect low demand :-)

I mentioned my friend. Check out his band: http://www.sexshop-home.com and http://www.myspace.com/sexshopmusic

those are really great clips... better quality than youtube shit anyway

the sound of the ashbory is really unique. the silicone strings are really apparent in the tone... very 'rubbery' (one more word for the musician's list of dubious words). i don't see how a normal fretless or double bass can ever compare. too bad that (probably due to the lack of mass-marketing) nobody has ever realised its full potential

well, i still prefer the upright cos the sound is definitely fuller and wayyy deeper. if u have the chance go try one out.

to me, this is the next best thing. :)
