I know most of us here are able to spot a fake Gibby but the article's just a heads up for those guys looking to buy an LP and suddenly comes across a $650 Gibson LP on Yahoo Auctions.

Just beware.

we are rather fortunate to have LP alternatives like Tokai/ Edwards/ Burny here to consider rather than taking risks with unauthenticated Gibsons...

Hmmm....there's a dude who try to sell a fake Gibson in this forum not long ago. See link below. I believe he realised he bought a fake, and tried to "recover" his money by selling it to the next unsuspecting victim.

A point to ponder. Will our S'pore police arrest the seller (as in US) for selling fake gear? Or is such matter is too trivial for them to take action? But one thing for sure, write to the media (eg. ST Forum), and our police will tell you their "standard procedure" and will "look into the matter" for the sake of image!

well..i sent an email to gibson regarding lioncity_girl..and they replied me telling me they will take action on the seller..haha

Not sure about whether our authorities will do anything about it. But if you happen to get conned and you report it I'm sure they will do something about it since conning people is a criminal offence itself. Or at least CASE might look into it

But I guess the complain method might work too.

Down with fake goods. I think fellow softies should collaborate with each other if there are newer sightings of fake Gibsons in the classifieds

Hey anyone got a site or article to see difference between fake epiphone les paul and real epiphone les paul??? I just wanna make suuuuuuuure. Lol

Hmm, fake Epi's. Haven't come across any articles about them yet.

But for fake Epi's I think the most obvious sign would be the logo on the headstock. Mis-alignment or stuffs like that.

well, i just read that US Customs are now destroying any 'gibsons' that come in from China.
likewise for German Customs.

Go test the epi. If it's a fake, feels and sounds as good as a real one, it might still be worth the money. But then again, it's a fake, it'll be a test of your conscience.

But seriously, I doubt anyone would want to fake an epi when they can make more with a fake gibby.

Support REAL STUFF!

If Gibson mentions how to check Authentic Gibson, then fake Gibson makers will know their flaws and patch them sooner or later then they can cover all these checkpoints.

It is not easy to ask seller to remove pickups and check the cavities as well, I don’t think any Gibson seller wants to do that. So solution is buy from authorize reputable dealer.
But second hand market is still risky as one can use existing serial number and fake certificates…sigh…..

IMO, it is easy to distinguish high end Ibanez RGs and JEMs from fakes but not easy for Gibson.
