Hello guys.
I jsut got my Art Tube amp Project series Preamp today

>> THIS ONE <<

I live in singapore and i ordered the amp from Ebay US.
I was so happy and all the good stuffs...

I connected the amp to the USB it detected and then when i plugged the 9 Volt adapter. It truned on all the lights lit up.

BUT ( here is the sad part )

after 20 seconds. its started smoking out thru the little vents /holes on the amp and there was burning smell. I expect it was the voltage and it was my stupidity . I was so excited as i have been waiting for this for so long to get delivered. and now its all gone.

I immediately unplugged the 9 volt wire.

I am not sure if its dead or not. BECAUSE now if i plug the amp to the USB only it still detects and shows in the recording devices? so i assume i plugged out at the right moment?

May be just the tube is gone?

can somone recommend what should i do?

May be if the AMP is Gone can somone please give me a alternative? like what other USB preamp with 48 Phantom power I can get?

I use AT2020 Mic and ATH M50 head phones.

Any advice will be appreciated.

The problem was probably that being a US unit the power supply was only meant for 110V. Here that our supply is 240V the unit got fried by the double voltage. Unfortunately it is not going to be worth repairing.

Curious why for such a device you had to get it from eBay US? You probably don't save much if at all.

Just get yourself a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 at Luther Music.

I know mate. it was my bad.. I was looking for the specific art tube amp and i couldnt find in singapore. I actually just got back from Simlim tower and got the adapter that i should use with the art amp. At the shop i tried to turn it on with the new adapter and surprisingly it turned on the lights lit up again. so i am not sure what happened exactly. i'll find out when i get home and plug it to my pc.

I have beenthinking about scarlette 2i2 also. So if i get it correct as i use AT2020 i would need phantom power 48. I think 2i2 has it..

which one do you recommend?

The iTrack Solo is inferior in many ways, except that it can connect to an iOS device.

For general usage the Scarlett 2i2 is your best choice due to its feature set and sound quality except...

If you intend to record primarily electric guitars and want to use Pod Farm (amplifier / cabinet emulator) to tweak your tone.

Anyway, good luck with your ART preamp, you're really lucky if its still working after smoking.
