Are Singing Lessons With A Vocal Coach Ne

As a singer without any formal vocal training, you would probably have wondered whether to hire a vocal coach to train your singing voice. Well, your procrastination is hurting your singing career.

Just name me any famous singer who never had any vocal training? Yes, some of them may have gotten popular without any formal singing lessons but all these popular singers, without exception realized that they have to engage a vocal coach at one time or another take their spectacular singing career to superstardom and to stay up there.

So what makes you think that you do not need vocal lessons? If you are already singing professionally, then it is vital that you take up voice training to separate you from the mediocre singers. This is how you can get noticed when you are above the pack and above your singing competitors.

If others do not believe in vocal training and you do, then you would already have won because you will be singing much better and control higher fees for your performances.

You need to take care and respect for your voice. That is your musical instrument and your voice determines whether you succeed or fail in your singing career.

Finding a good singing teacher can be a little tricky. There are many so called vocal coaches out there proclaiming themselves to be singing teachers after merely reading up a few books. As this industry is not regulated, there are many charlatans out there.

The best way to determine a good singing teacher is to ask good singers. After all, they are already good singers themselves and their recommendation won't be all that bad isn't it?

However, since singing teachers are human beings, it is thus important that the teacher student relationship is good and you can get along your vocal coach. The chemistry between you and your coach must be good, otherwise when you are singing under stress, your voice will come out as very strained and that voice is awful to the ears. If you can't along with your singing teacher, then you may need to change your vocal coach.

One way of eliminating this human problem in learning how to sing is to get VCDs, DVD and video singing lessons of famous and proven vocal coaches. Not only is it much less expensive than hiring a vocal teacher, you can work at your own time and own pace. Since the teaching tools are yours, you can practice your vocal training anytime and anywhere. Better yet, you are learning from the best!

Most good singing coaches will have a vocal workout lessons plan for you. Learning how to breathe and use your diaphragm properly are the basics of a singer's inventory. You will find out how remarkable your voice can get when you mastered only these two singing exercises. Once you are using correct breathing and diaphragm control techniques, your singing voice and confidence will soar.

So, if want to bring your singing career to greater heights then go and get a vocal coach now and start practicing singing skills now.

I agree with TanyaBrown - our singer had a good voice to begin with, but once she started taking vocal lessons, she developed a great voice.
And thinking of powerful singers like Chester of Linkin Park, who damaged his voice because he wasn't properly trained, I believe it's vital for singers who want a long term career to get proper training. Fortunately for Chester, after his surgery he got good training and now sounds great again.

i don't think it is necessary for everyone... Some of the older singers never went through any training at all.. I won a singing competition and was sent to Music Clinic for some free lessons. They taught me things i already know.. Said i just need to practise and find my own voice. Finding my own voice doesn't need a teacher to do that, cause it boils down to myself for that issue.
Just practise the song, learn from those good singers, then try to develop your own voice from there. Listen to different genres. Adds up to your music knowledge and the way they sing. You should improve greatly from there.
Just my opinion. =] ;)

As a vocal coach myself, I find it extremely important to be coached as a singer if only so for the prime reason to not hurt yourself. Singing has great potential to damage a person's oral-laryngeal body parts, and I was once hurt too...

Back in my younger days, I didn't sing with proper vocal production (but I still sounded good), and didn't know my limits. Belting high notes was (and still is) viewed as measure of 'skill' and I was caught up in that too as a vocalist. Time and time again I ignored the sore throat that would come the day after singing, and suddenly one morning I woke up, unable to hold a note, or even utter a word.

For 3 months I couldn't speak but only made grunts and noises. The doctor could offer only painkillers and suggested letting my voice take a long rest before resorting to surgery. It was devastating to come to a realisation that I can very well never sing again. Praise the Lord, that somehow after the long rest, my voice slowly came back to me; though I lost my original falsetto, and my range shrunk by 4-5 notes. And phew, no need for surgery.

Some singers, unlike me, get their vocal production organs PERMANENTLY damaged, never to sing again. So do be careful with your voice and if you're serious about singing, go get a good coach =)

Hi i feel that its not only impt to protect your throat by developing good singing habits other factors play a part too n should not be overlooked

I lost my voice completely during NS BMT , shout too much during the forced "singing" during road march etc . :( . haha couldnt talk for about a week couldnt sing for a few weeks , couldnt control my falsetto as well as i did ever since. Now after ord liao then starting to get better. So for aspiring singers going to NS remember to take care of yourself :)

I think all of us, who has already suffered the ill effect of singing with bad technique has realized the need for a vocal coach. I too was able to sing high notes and has a stable falsetto during my younger days. I can sing savage garden, daniel bedingfield with no troubles at all. Then just one day, I cannot sing high anymore. I Blamed it on the cigarettes.

Nowadays I have completely given up on the high notes. I just can't sing it anymore. And also finding myself having a hard time controling my voice and can never perfect a song. There will always be pitchy parts.

It is only now I realized this is all caused by bad singing techniques, which sadly for me. I won't be able to get rid of now. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.

So my advice, early on, even if you already have a good voice. Go for training. This will allow you to have an even greater voice, that will last your whole lifetime.

Hey babyjosef17, yea it's a pity to lose what we know we could've kept. But then again it's what we lose that we cherish eh? Anyways, there are vocal therapies that can bring back some that's lost though. I've tried it myself, it's not a 100% regain of what you have, but it did teach me some new tricks.

We can take the alternative

Hi,
I'm quite interested in this topic, so I need to post my reply. Currently I am under coaching, but like < iwantaverylongname> said,

"i don't think it is necessary for everyone..."

I agree that not everyone need a coach but...

I think it is always necessary for anyone who wants to soar high in the career of singing, especially those who discovered themselves with a prof voice, I mean can sing in the crowd. There is a need because we need to activate the right muscle in breathing. There are exercises, a very simple one on How To Condition Your Voice Box. And it is important to know that.

Currently I am singing in a Church context, though the Pitch is not that real high one, but still there's a need for Tuning Exercises of my Voice Box before I engage myself. And this tuning methods I learned from my a good coach here in Singapore.

And for those who don't want to meet a coach you can get an alternative. You can visit this Site if you are interested. I learned a lot from there.

warm regards,
ronie
