The links below will show you the device and how I mount it on the cymbal stand. I spent weeks experimenting with different configurations of the device and other hypothetical devices that I tried to attach. What you see in the pictures is the simplest and most efficient result.
I realize that one company makes a 'spring' kind of cymbal holder, but the reason that it doesn't restore the wash is because it's WAY too dense. What is necessary is something that will impede the vibrations from the cymbal from channeling down through the stand. Felt itself is too dense.
The 'device' is a flexible (but too flexible) spring I got at the hardware store. I cut it to size. With minimum effort, this spring can be pressed together. However, it is not so flexible that once the cymbal is on, the spring completely depresses. The spring remains coiled. Don't get a spring that is too thick or cannot be compressed with minimum effort between your thumb and finger. It needs to be large-coiled and flexible. Also, the more coils, the more vibrations will leak down into the stand. You don't want that. My spring only has about three thin coils. This works because the vibrations are, for the most part, unable to escape through any dense channel down into the floor. The cymbal is forced to show you its true 'colors.' Felt turned out to not really be an issue, as long as it is isolated from the stand by the device.
