Just want to give a shout out to the folks at TY Music Centre in Peninsula Plaza.
1 of the machine heads fell off my Les Paul and went missing, and it isn't a big issue since just the turning mechanism was missing but the rest of the tuner was intact. So its just the metal pole sticking out from the headstock. I couldn't turn the pole with my fingers because the tension was too high. So a simple solution was just to find a tuning head that fits...I didn't care that it looked different or anything like that.
So I went down to Peninsula but every store I visited told me that I would have to replace all 6 tuners, which would cost at least $42 not including service charge. Many told me I won't find a store anywhere that would solve my problem because the part I was looking for isn't sold in such a manner. Granted, everyone could see my problem and understood how annoyingly simple the solution was. But no one could do anything because the problem was so small...the easiest solution was to replace the entire tuner which involves buying all 6 tuners which involves servicing fees...
Anyway, I was kinda depressed and walked into TY Music Centre prepared to get the same answer. After showing them my headstock, they offered me the same answer of changing all 6 tuners. But the guy I spoke to was thinking hard about the problem. He went to the back of the store and returned with an old Swing tuner. Screwing off the machine head, he carefully slotted in the washer and machine head onto my guitar and tuned the string for me. The whole thing cost a beautiful $2.
It was a tiny problem that had huge ramifications, and I couldn't feel happier walking out of TY Music. He could have easily forced me to replace all tuners, but he understood my problem and could feel my frustration at having to go to such lengths for something so small. Really an excellent example of seeing the customer as a person rather than a walking bag of money.
Thumbs Up! =)
