as above, i think there are some things u cud use to remove scratches on car paint. Was wondering if there are similar stuff for guitar finishes as well.

jerry, u sure brasso works??

yup, I'm sure. its a little trick that Kelvin taught me while I'm helping out at the store. the only reason why he let me do it was because its friggin tedious just for one scratch alone. he didnt want me to use the car scratch remover was because it was too rough for different kinds of finish on a guitar.

try brasso on a slight ding or a light scratch on your guitar. concentrate on wiping that little ding/scratch. you'll see the results :).

My god. Brasso. Have you ever wondered why brasso can polish metal but car polish cannot? That's because the aluminium oxide powders in car polish are way smaller than brasso.

What I use for my PRS is this: Autoglym Paint Renovator followed by Autoglym Super Resin Polish with a microfibre cloth by jim dunlop that retails for around $20 at Yamha Tampines. I doubt the Plaza Singa stocks it any longer. Oh spectacle cloth works fine with the paint renovator but I use super resin polish with the microfibre cloth for a scratch-free finish. The autoglym and meguire's car compound can both be found at Homefix. It's hard to type out when to know when you have already polished enough. It comes with experience.

Using a cotton cloth defeats the purpose because it just creates more tiny scratches. Try it (or don't actually) under an intense fluorescent light and see.

For bigger scratches I use grit 2500 sandpaper but it is extremely dangerous and I've learnt a couple of painful lessons. I have a relic-ed prs now 8) which looks cool really.

Nowadays I hardly try to buff out any small scratches anymore. Just not worth the time and no matter how hard you try to take care of it those scratches will come back. If you keep buffing one day you'll eventually get through the finish. Mark my words

So polishing actially removes layers of coating and paint? Woah.
Imagine a bald spot on ur guitar..

it works on the same principle as some of those CD scratch removers.
basically abrasive polish that removes a very thin layer, so the scratch 'dissapears'.

i dont really bother with removing scratches anyway.

There you go! My PRS cu22. It's a long story affliated with a series of unfortunate events with some guitar repair shop. Altogether now on the count of 3. 1, 2, 3 "OUCCCCH!"

Morale of story: Don't help other ppl clean up their sh!t or you make matters worst.

Oh and also don't attempt any self repairs til you've make all the mistakes you can make and are certain you won't make anymore

Speaking of scratches, there's this area above the bridge where I rest my palm
is badly 'dull'. It's not a scratch though, I don't know what it is called. Wish I had a picture of it. It's probably abrasion. Any idea how to remove it?
