Anyone attended Academy of Rock before?

Has anyone tried courses at the Academy of Rock? I saw their school near Novena a few weeks ago. I am quite interested in their guitar course because they seem to be the only one I could find so far that teaches acoustic guitar in rock style.

I am still pondering if I should sign up because I don't live near Novena but all the schools around my area only teach classical guitar and they only have the kind of course that prepare me to take the grading exams.

If you have tried their school, can you please share your experience? Otherwise, could you recommend me some other schools that teach acoustic guitar and preferably near Sengkang?

Thanks.

I attended School of Rock before but the teacher who taught me got arrested for fraud. Oh wait that was a movie.

Hey there,
Yeah, I'm a student at the AOR. Personally, i think that it's a great school. They have good equipment, good teachers, and very flexible schedules. Unlike most music institutes, you can change the date of your lesson (provided if you give a 48 hr notice). Their teachers are very friendly and patient with their students. Lastly, they have a biannual concert which they allow their students to participate in. By all means, go sign up. I'm sure you will enjoy it :)

Hi Holispirit. Sounds good. How long are the lessons and how are the rates there like? And what kind of timing do they have?

How long have you been there and do you think their teaching is effective?

It depends on you. They have the half and hour lesson, or the 45 min lesson. Of course the longer one will have a higher rate. Well, the rates also depend on whether you're going there to learn as one person only, or with another guy. With 2 people 45 mins, it's 100 a month on weekdays and 120 on weekends. 1 person, I think it's 125 on weekdays and 150 on weekends. I'm not 100% sure, but it should be around there.

As for the teaching, yes, it is effective. The teachers there are very patient. However, you still need to practice at home in order to improve, no question. For beginners, they usually go through the basics such as power chords, chords, pentatonic scales, alt picking etc.. If lets say, you have a song in mind that you wanna learn, you can tell them and they will teach you.

Timing wise, that's up to you to decide. But the specific time slot you want has to be open of course. One last thing, if you are having lessons on a weekday, it's going to be cheaper than if you have it on a weekend. Maybe 20 dollars diff?? Yeah that's about it, hope I've helped. Oh, and I've been there since November last year, before that I was at Yamaha xD

I agree with Holispirit. I was at Yamaha too before and now i'm at AOR... Whatever holispirit tells you its the truth and yes this school is really really good!! The best thing is that we can perform and the teachers are damn friendly la!! haha!!! There is only 2 places... one is NOvena the other one is HOlland village... I'm currently and holland village coz i live near that area... i suggest u should enter this schoool.. Is really really good.... NO DOUBT!

Currently taking lessons from there. Pretty good place to go to, can consider going there. Yamaha's pretty decent too, for acoustic guitar that is.

Dude, you should really go to Academy Of Rocks,
Not only that the equipments rocks, but the people there are friggin awesome.
they are those people who actually rock out at gigs, pubs whatever.

My second uncle teachers thereee too.
It's an awesome place trust me. you would like it.
At the end of every year they would hold like a concert for all their students.
it's awesome.

Yup, they've got good gear there. Tell me, which other music school let's you play with Gibsons?

Haha, exactly, luckily their gibsons there have the faded type of finish. I don't dare to imagine the number of scratches on it if it was painted with the nitrocellulose finish. There are customs there btw.

Hmm, I'm looking for a good place to work on my metal phrasing and playing techniques... That might be a good place to start. Though I'd use my own guitar. I bet it's better than those damn gibsons.

Hmm I might go there to check it out, Jai (damn power guitarist from swee lee) is teaching there.

Wow...the comments sound pretty good. I am excited to start learning with them. I gonna register with them soon and come back to update everyone about my experience with them.

Is Coronation near farrer park MRT? I stay at Sengkang and both Holland V and Novena are far from my place.
