I'm a fan of rock as well. However, rock is a very generic term that is more than often quite vague. There are many sub-genres like punk rock, 80s rock, heavy rock, pop rock, rock rock, alternative rock, mainstream rock. Basically if you have a term and would like to affix that to a generic genre you can make it into a genre (given enough support and propaganda-rers) you can have your own genre.
I love the 80s (Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Skid Row, Motley Crue) -not just limited to these bands.
I also love Kings of Leon and some songs of Muse. Never a fan of grunge though. The one and only song that I heard of and actually dig from Nirvana would be 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Additionally, songs that people/groups like Boyce Avenue/Cathy Nguyen/53A/Sixx cover.
I know that this topic is supposed to be about genres but I just wanna share the homegrown local talents that exist but not many know of.
53A (what I would like to call the 'Sara Wee' band)
Genre: Singapore Music
Sixx (the band that played on the mrt)
Genre: Singapore Music
The Common People (comprised of a mixture of musicians, some from Zero Sequence)
Genre: Singapore Music
Zero Sequence(singapore's Dream Theater)
Genre: Singapore Music
The Great Spy Experiement(made up of people too cool to be called teachers)
Genre: Singapore Music
Lunarin (very unique sounds)
Genre: Singapore Music
Jack and Rai (remember the 'fa-la-la-la-la' song that was so hot on 987fm? they wrote it)
We should all make a genre called 'Singapore Music' or somewhere along that line !
