Here is my equipments (nothing great)

Squire Fender California Series Strat
Smarvo Guitar Amp
Boss ME-20
Boss DD-3 pedal

the thing is , i just cant find the tone of distortions for the bands that i playing such as paramore , fall out boy , all time low with my ME-20 . keep turning here and there to get the sounds but when at home i got the sounds , then when play at jamming , tend to returning again as sometimes the gain/treble are high and stuff..

Need help.. if anyone use this ME-20 pedal and u got a good distortion tone and clean , please do share the settings ..

then again , now i wanna try using pedals instead , intend to buy fab distortion and boss CH-1 pedal.. any suggestions..?

Hope to hear some replies from you fellow softies..

Your Smarvo amp at home is about 10-15 watts right? It will definitely sound different at studios that use amps of higher wattage and specifications.

Same thing happens to me. My drives sound better in studios and mediocre at home, so i tweak my favourite settings in the studio.

ya its about 15 watts.. i also having that prob.. but once i got a good tone at home , at studio tends to get either high gain or high treble with squeak sound.. so then when i tweak the ME-20 in studio , i need to retweak again at home..

It's the type of pickups I think. The guitar you're using has singlecoil pickups, right? Singlecoils will always sound different from humbuckers. If I'm not wrong, the bands you're talking about use humbuckers.

First off, you can try adding more mids and bass frequencies into your distortion tones to 'fatten' up the tone.

i not use to the ME-20 yet .. i just tweak around with the nobs only .. but i plan to get a seperate pedals.. for instance , i wanna get a fab distortion and boss CH-1 .. any other pedals suitable for this kinda of bands and its prices..?

is it better to tweak in the studio or at home..? i know diffrent amps deliver diffrent sounds.. i wanna know when to tweak , either at home or studio..?

Whoops. Didn't notice this part. "keep turning here and there to get the sounds but when at home i got the sounds , then when play at jamming , tend to returning again as sometimes the gain/treble are high and stuff.."

I've got a tactic that I use with my multi-effects (which is a Line 6).

When using a multi-effects through a big studio amp, you'd want the amp's sound to be as clean as possible. If the amp's gain is too high, your sound will become extremely trebly and thin.

When using the studio amp, make sure you're using the clean channel, and keep the gain for that channel as low as possible. And raise the lows and mids.

by any chances u remember the settings for the amp in the big studios..? i usually jam at this studio at clarke quay called four tones .. the amp has lots of settings while my amp at home has only 5 knobs.. so i anyhow tweak when im at there..

It's up to you. Do you play more at home or in the studio? Either way, it would be good to have studio settings and home settings since you can't always get the same tone that you want at 2 places.

My amp settings are all the same. The EQ (Bass, treble and mids) are always at 12 o clock. Then the other stuff like modulation (Reverb, flanger and chorus) are all switched off.

thanks for the tips , let say i wanna build a pedal board instead .. what pedals is good for these types of bands..? right now i only have boss dd-3.. planning to buy fab distortion and boss ch-1 or fab cool cat chorus..
