Analog synth lovers?

count me in too...
nice to see you here sonicbrat ..Ken here...
So what's your latest wishlist?

Hello Ken, as always, Moog Voyager (electric bluuueee), Fender Rhodes Mark 7, Alesis Andromeda, a French Connection Persephone, Electro Harmonix HOG, MOOG MF107 freqbox, MF104z Analogue Delay, Doepfer MAQ16/3 analogue sequencer, and Doepfer R2M ribbon midi controller, and maybe a Serge Modular synthesizer ... want to be my synthiclaus this coming christmas? ;) ...

Nice to meet you Ken and piano_ex :)

[sonicbrat] kekekeke...i'm also drooling after the Minimoog electric blue (for a loooooooong time) :) but with its back breaking price, i'll be quite happy to settle for a good condition Yamaha CS-30 or CS030L this Christmas ;)

P/S: Got a Jomox Xbase 999 on the way :D

Actually the Voyager ain't that expensive... I won't say back breaking... because we are so used to "commercial" brands and prices, anything beyond 4-5k seems expensive for us. But in hardwares, most of the time every money you put in is for what you get. Mass production versus hand production.... brand counts yes, but understanding what parts they use in a synthesizer makes the difference... the filtering model, the capacitor, the type of oscillator model, resistor, etc, etc.... say a modular synthesizer... a decent two oscillator, with a filtering module, say a couple of mixer panels, CV to midi, multiplier, envelope shaper, a ring modulator, a delay unit plus of course the power supply... say cheaper we go for eurorack fix (ie the smaller knobs not the big moogy knobs MOTM kinds)... fixing this modular synthesizer in a case plus shipping would easily go up to $5k-8K and above depending on what modulars you are getting.... not to mention if it's Buchla (200e series can go up to USD$12k - $25k).... and that's only a basic 2 osc modular system we are talking about... too bad we using SGD... So oh well, we can save and save and then spend then.... what a hobby...

Wooo Jomox xbase 999 wooooo.... got sunsyn? woooo I want a Resonator Neuronium though... heh... but for now... it's for the Voyager and the Rhodes... a life time must have!!! Yummmsss guess it all depends on what type of music you wana do and make a purchase pertaining to your needs that's important... :)

sonicbrat, yea...you're absolutely right! I still have no plans to go down the modular path for the reasons you mentioned kekekekeke...gonna burn a big hole through my pants! But, who knows, some day if i save enough.......hahahaha but you're right...I feel the same way with the Voyager...I KNOW I will make its acquaintance one day in this lifetime ;)

The Xbase is still in the mail...bought it from analogue haven and can't wait to pump some analog drums into my shit. I had earlier thought I would be happy with a Machinedrum but after some months with it, I find that no matter how I tweak, it still has its characteristically digital sheen to it (which isn't a bad thing, and I hope the Xbase will be a perfect partner for the MD to dance with) :)

Neuronium?!? That is one strange beast indeed! I did check out some audio samples online and it sounds like a "space birds" machine hahahaha. If I inherit it from a dead uncle, I would be happy to play with it but I doubt I will be so rich that I would spend US$2k+ on an astral bird machine kekekeke. But it's definitely an interesting machine!

ken, i was looking at the drm at first but decided to bite the bullet and go the whole way with the jomox. Have you also checked out the perfourmer? Man, those rolls and rolls of knobs......drool......have you guys checked out the drm in action on youtube?

Nice to meet you, shaneypants! :)

Aye second that on Neuronium... it's really too steep for an effects/filtering processor. I am happy with my Sherman Filterbank 2 for now. Hey, you should let us know how it goes with the Jomox when it comes. I thot about the Vermona(s) as well, but in the end my eyes went to Analogus Solutions' Semblance and Vostok and Macbeth M5 which in the end I didn't get and ended up with a Doepfer Modular System... boy am I glad I finally found peeps in the analogue synth loop... :) By the way I dig Matrixsynth! A friend of mine, check out his site if you haven't www.matrixsynth.com he's the most dedicated synth-enthusiast ever.

Hey sonicbrat, the filterbank is definitely one of the items on my (extended) wishlist kekekeke. On that note, do you have any experience with the moogerfooger delay pedal? Looks like a really cool piece of kit though the price is kinda steep for what it does...I dunno. Have not experienced the Macbeth though the M3X and M5(N) look like really neat stuff. I am half deciding if I should go ahead and get a CS-30 (or perhaps the Vermona Perfourmer) for Christmas or to delay my gratification and stash the cash for a Voyager in future instead. Anyway, the Jomox was delayed and apparently that was some screw up on their shipping end. Will definitely tell you more about it when I get it :)

So, how's the Doepfer? Got any tracks I can listen to cos I would love to hear the stuff you make :)

Have fun!

Hey Luke... the only Moogfooger I've got is the MF105 filter... it's worth every bit of the dough. Honestly, if you think just a delay pedal, yeah it's kinda steep... but its analogue plus I think it does sync'ing if I am not wrong. And it has the "modular" patches behind (which means you can hook up in a modular sorta way: envelope, mix, LFO, etc) and if you get the entire Moogerfooger series complete with the freqbox 107, you've got a small modular running :) so it's worth every bit of the moola you put in when it comes to moogerfoogers... I've only heard good feedbacks about the delay thus far...

I would say, save up for the Voyager... As for Doepfer, I'm still finding my way around it and experimenting with it. Yes I do have some samples going but they are just "experimentations"... you can find them HERE. The only song that I've put the Doepfer into use with other synths are these two songs (unmastered versions):
AS THEY FALL DOWN AT THE END
ANHEDONIA

And they can be found on my myspace in the twango embeddings under "More Music" in the profile section... :) Add me on myspace if you have an account:

Jomox Xbase 999...

Having had a few days to play with the Jomox (I love Deepavali!!), I have to say it's everything I hoped it to be. Some users have complained about its user interface but if you are somewhat familiar with the Roland x0x series of step programming style, then you would feel right at home. Most editing can be made on the fly without having to break your flow pressing the "stop" button (you can even use it to control 4 external MIDI tracks using its sequencer!). Build quality is typical German excellence...mine is the newer issue dark faced version and the combination of metal housing against the wood end-cheeks is quite yummy :)

Sound-wise, this guy rocks bigtime for me. It seems to be everything the Machinedrum isn't and vice versa. If you like to make dance music where beats play a critical role, you really can't go too wrong with the Xbase. It doesn't come cheap but I feel it is well worth saving for.

Have fun peeps! :)
