Amp too loud

Hi all
I have a Line 6 Valve Spider 212 which I bought from a fellow softie and use at home. For those who don't know it's a 40W Bogner tube amp with the EFX section of a usual L6 Spider and Celestion Vintage speakers.
Now I can't really turn the volume button higher than 9 o'clock (or 2 of 10) without losing my hearing and getting stabbed by my wife.

So I think I miss out quite of the tube sound due to low volumes. Plus the default volume on some presets knocks you of the chair when you hit the wrong button (that's quite annoying on this amp).

I know that some other tube amps have a switch to change to lower wattage in order to get the full tube sound at lower volumes.

Now I am wondering if it is possible to mod the amp with this kind of selection and if yes who in SG is able to do so?

Thanks a lot for any advice.

he he... you also need to re-educate your missus pertaining to amps & volume; if the amp wasn't meant to be turned up, the volume knob wouldn't be there in the first place, ya? anyway, my spouse has always been tolerant with my stack:

Seems the attenuator is the way to go, was not aware of that device before. So thanks for the response.
But is modding the amp out of question? Does anyone have experience with it?

My wife is more the singing and piano kind of type, I fear any education will encouter deaf ears (well, so to speak). Subversion how did you educate your neighbours? :-)

Get a Dr.Z Airbrakes. I don't encounter much tone loss. If you can splurge, get the Ultimate Attenuator. That one has very little tone loss.

Either way, getting an attenuator is a must since any tone loss caused by using an attenuator is negated by the advantages of cranking the tubes.

i don't because we are fellow noise-mongers; they do karaoke & shout themselves hoarse during mahjong/ soccer camp-ins, i remain tolerant. they reciprocate this during my guitar time.

good for you mate, good for you. looking forward to have a house again (incl basement) instead of an overpriced flat once I am back in good old Europe.

But now we are really off-topic. I guess we can close the thread since I am happy with the solutions provided.
