Amp help

cadence

Hi guys! first post here so i was wondering if i could get some advice. im currently looking for an amp to be placed at home (loud enough not to have the police called) but also suitable for stage use (with abit of mic-ing). i would prefer one with no efx onboard as i wanna experiment with pedals and even mfx. would place more emphasis on the clean sounds of the amp.

as for the songs im going to be playing, mainly pop, soft rock and mostly christian music. have been eyeing the vox pathfinder 15r (great price!) but not sure if it's suitable for stage use. another consideration (also a vox) is the ac4tv. have also been looking at the fender frontman 25r. the cleans sound a lil too twangy for me though (at no fault of the amp). im not particular if its ss or tube as long as i can use it both at home and stage. budget is prolly nothing more than $300. really great if you guys could shed some light :)

Well, if you're doing MFX, it makes more sense to go straight into the PA. I do that all the time in church myself and let the soundman worry about the EQ-ing. If it sounds good i take the credit, if its bad he takes the blame lol. For practice purposes, since you're going straight into PA, just use headphones or do what i do: hook up a set of X-Mini speakers, because you don't want an amp's natural tone colouration affecting your tweaking; your patches are gonna sound different through the amp at home and on stage in church, provided you're going thru PA direct. But yeah, the Pathfinder is probably one of the best small practice amps out there, i'd definitely buy it if i were you. For pedals, the choice is obvious: get the amp. Great cleans and take pedals/MFX really well. Just don't bother with line out jack though, whenever i used it the sound was TERRIBLE. To this day i still don't know why. The only gripe i have is that there isn't a midrange knob, but mic-ing it up will mean that the soundman can correct that to some extent, as will an EQ pedal.

The mic is important, as earlier stated, personally i like the Shure SM57 for mic-ing up.

thanks for the replies man! hmm so if i use an mfx better to go straight to the house huh? what if i want to add like one OD pedal and a dist. pedal on top of my mfx unit? still possible to go straight to house?
