Hi guys :), i want to upgrade my amp to something better.. using marshall mg dfx15 atm. I play mostly punk/rock and sometimes metal, any suggestions

Hughes & Kettner Triamp?
Hahaha.. Dude, what's your budget? Any preference?
Are you going to use the amp's in-built distortion as your main drive, or are you a pedal user?
Do you want an in-built multi-effects as a must?

There are many good amps out there that will be recommended once you've answered these questions..

eh my budget around 600 or so. i dun mind using in built effect but i have a distortion pedal already :). I was thinking maybe small tube amp like ibanez valbee? fender champ 600 or epiphone valve jr

The Epiphone Valve Jr. is a great amp IF you only need great cleans..
Do consider another counterpart, Blackheart amplifiers.. Sounds almost similar to the Valve Jr., but with more knobs!

The Fender Pro Jr. is a good amp too if you need fenderish cleans.. Not sure about the champ though..

A great amp near your budget at a good price IMO, if you want that Vox tone..

I'm currently using the Randall RG G2 series.. The speakers found on the unit (2 12" Celestion 70 Eighties) are remarkable, responding well to cleans and loving that drive.. Neuro182 is selling a used unit..

This are just some choices I can think of at the moment..

EDIT: Eh, if this helps - i play a les paul BFG so i rather have a thicker distortion tone - any tube amps have a good distortion at my budget? or do i need a pedal :P

Yeap.. It's better to buy Heads/Cabs sometimes cause you can have several heads at once..
Blackheart amps are available at Yamaha..
Blackheart Amps - SOFT = Music In Singapore
Here's a thread about it!

Oh yeah, if you like your Marshall MG sound.. There's the MG15MSII that ain't too bad bro!
What I recommend is :
1) Read reviews
2) Listen to soundclips
3) Ask for advice online on soft
4) Try it!!!

The last step is the most important.. You should buy what you like if it is within your means..

Ok thanks for the suggestions =D I was looking at that marshall but whats the size? i scared later cannot transport around or block up too much space =\

EDIT: and must i connect the head to the cab, if i must, how? o_O one more cable like connecting pedals?

Just to add: IMO, I personally suggest that, for the Blackheart, you best wait for the arrival of the BH15H Handsome Devil model as it has an additional drive knob.

Otherwise, I would purchase a BH1H Killer Ant, as it is almost the same as the Epi VJ, but at a cheaper price.

The BH10H Little Giant knobs didn't make much of a huge difference to me in terms of tone. There are differences but not huge enough to warrant it as that different from it's smaller counterpart.

Ah ok thanks :) but then now i was thinking solid state amp might be more worth it for me since i haven't started gigging yet :p and just need like 30w. Anyway if i do buy a solid state.. Marshall avt 20/50 - Roland 30 or Vox AD30VT ? for rock - punk - metal
i currently use a MG15 Marshall - wanting an upg badly :|

EDIT: i have a distortion pedal btw - might change it to a crunch box

for solid state amps with real hard distortion, i'd recommend either the sound drive 612 (not sure which is it exactly, but sub reviewed it on the review section) or peavey bandit 112...
the peavey's distortion is imo one of the best... raw, hard and really really solid.

hey, thanks for the reply. What if i used a distortion pedal instead of the amps distortion? Any good amps for that

If you are looking for SS amp and intend to use pedals, any amp with good clean is fine.

Roland Cube30 or Tech21 Trademark or Orange Crush are worth to consider.

thx for another suggestion, though i was kinda looking for a solid state amp.. dont really wanna keep replacing tubes :p

you dont need to keep replacing tubes.tubes arent like underwear or boxers rather they are like batteries to a calculator.

i have no idea how that is linked.
