Firstly,

Greeting to everyone who is reading this thread of mine.
I have a couple of questions which i will organize them into point-forms.

Hopefully when you are able to help me out. Please reply me in the sequence. Otherwise, some information i need might get left out. No offence.

Okay here's a slight introduction.
I've been drumming for around 4-6 months and i started learning the double bass for about 1-2months ago. I usually play songs from Avenged Sevonfold and Blink182. So here's my question.

1. I plan to get a Yamaha Acoustic Drum kit. As for cymbols, i need recommendations like, what cymbols should i get to be able to play according to the songs i usually jam to. Eg, Ride Cymbol, China, etc.

2. Double bass. At times, when i play the double bass, it tends to go smooth, and at times, i jumble it up. My left leg is kinda "stiff" and it doesnt move really fast just like my right leg does. If i step the pedal for too long, only my left legs starts to get tired. And at time, my left leg couldnt co-ordinate together. Song such as the Beast and the Harlot requires a huge amount of double bass. So, i need some pointers on how to improve, as well as practice the flow of my "rhythem" between each leg, alternatively. And if possible, helps me to improve the speed.

3. If i plan to record my drum covers on the camera, what equipments do i need? Eg, Camera, Mikes, etc. (Including wires connecting to PC). And, i usually see lots of drummers putting on the headphones and drum to the music. It's usually shown on Youtube's drum covers. So how do i put everything together to show what is like in the video too?

Once again, thank you for your pointers. I would definately help me, alot. Thank you.

Regards,

Milkwave.

Im sry but i can onli help wif the double bass part ( i saw guides on double bass but i hvnt got the time to learn it )

Well u have to start out frm slow. Try practising with this rhythm:

ride: x-x-x-x-| x-x-x-x-|
bass: xxxxxxxx| xxxxxxxx|
RLRLRLRL| RLRLRLRL

start out slow den speed up. by 1 month u shud be able to play real fast. U can also add in snare on 2nd n 4th beat to make it sound more rhythmic :D Alternatively, u can start out wif ur left leg, so the rhythm goes LRLRLRLR instead of RLRLRLRL.

Thats all i can do. Sry

Well in general you always should have crashes and rides, regardless of what music you play. The question is what kind(model, size) of cymbal. I'm a zildjian person so I can only give you my opinion for zildjian cymbals. Seeing as you play more rock you probably want brighter and loud cymbals, and you should try the zildjian A custom series. The choice of specific sizes of each cymbal and the different cymbals in the line are up to you to decide, but yeah I would think A customs are pretty good for what you like to play. Many of the other members here know more about other cymbal brands such as Sabian and Paiste and also the lesser known brands like Istanbul mehmet and stuff like that, so you should see what they recommend as well.

About double bass, don't rush it man. Like anything else new, take your time to develop control and stuff and don't just jump in to playing crazy fast beats and stuff. It's all about practice. What I did before I got a double pedal to improve my left foot control was I changed my drum set up to a left-hander set up (I'm a righty) and so I was playing my bass drum with my left foot instead. That improved my control and coordination quite a bit, but even then when I started playing double pedal (I still can't by the way, but these are just tips) I wasn't very good at it. I'm more of a single pedal person.

Sorry I can't help much, but hope you can at least take away something from my suggestions:) good luck with your drumming

1. Its, Cymbals, not Cymbols.

Either way, best is you go try out the cymbals yourself, and let your ears decide. I only have good knowledge with the Zildjians. You might like the Z3s too. Just go down Plaza Singapura and try them out, even though its not the best place to do so, at least you get an idea how the cymbals sound like.
Since you're starting out, just get a pair of hihats, 2 crashes and a ride first. Save the China and Splash for later until you're more familiar with what you're playing.

2. As for double pedalling, practice! You need to start out slow. No drummers can play the Beast of Harlot when they just picked up drumming. You need to practice your double pedalling first. And most importantly, when you practice, be CONSTANT. Even if you can go fast but your bass notes are messed up, it still sounds like crap.

3. For covers, well. Depends on the quality of the covers you wanna record. Do you want your drums to sound good?

If yes, you need to mic your drums which I can't help in this sector, but I think you need a mixer to connect to PC, and the drum mics to the mixer, which is costly.
If not, a digital camera that can record video should do.
I connected my electronic drums direct to my laptop and recorded the sounds direct with Audacity while I used my mobile phone to record the video of my drumming, then sync them using video-editing program. That works too. But takes abit more effort.

Alright, thanks alot for the help, everyone.

Sorta cleared me from my doubts. Thanks. ^^
If anyone has any opinions or suggestions, please feel free to type it out here. It would help alot. Once again, thanks.
