Aggresive Overdrive

Hey guys, i'm looking for an Aggresive Overdrive with alot of grit. I'm actually kind of looking at a TS9 or a Digitech Bad Monkey. Just wondering if there are any overdrives like that or even better? I'm looking for a really transparent overdrive, but aggresive aswell

digitech hardwire overdrive, you can switch between classic and modern overdrive. The modern having more grit and crunch. Plus this pedal has a bass and treble knob for a little tweaking of teh tone

IMO tubesscreamers are far from transparent, they increase mids and cut treble but the bad monkey has eq knobs so its more tweakable. for me transparent and aggressive doesnt fit together unless your original tone is aggressive to begin with.

transparent and affordable ods for me are the bluesdriver (the stock sounds more transparent but keeley one sounds warmer). If you like how the ts sounds, u can get the ts9 and then if u dont like it u can choose to mod it. lots of mods 4 u to choose man.

not too sure about aggressive ods but i use a fuzz for aggressive sounds..fuzzes that can clean up well can give u a gritty and nasty od sound e.g fuzz faces.

4 mods? I only thought there was the keely mod :S. What does modding it do anyway? They just change the capacitors don't they?

haha, i meant there are lots of mods FOR u to choose. theres keeley, analogman, monte allums, i think randolf has one and probably some more that ive missed out.. and robert keeley, analogman and monte allums have more than 1 mod each so thats quite a few choices for u.

check their websites and youtube for more info n clips la, im just typing frm the top of my head so i might be wrong or excluded some info.

I dont know much about electronics and what they do exactly but yeah, they swap caps, resistors and change the ICs and some mods include true bypass switching also. Thats why u see some boss/ibanez pedals with a switch sticking out.

If you're on a budget, the Digitech Bad Monkey is a good pedal to get. But try to get it used, brand new it's quite expensive if you buy from Swee Lee. It's got quite a lot of distortion, so it's more of a lush, thick, fat overdrive especially with humbuckers, but it also cleans up and brightens up nicely with singlecoils. So on the overall, a very good pedal for the money.

aggressive overdrive- certainly not the Tubescreamer/ Bad Monkey. these are mild, semi-polite drive units, the Bad Monkey sounds thick but in terms of aggression- it could have been better. i own the TURBO Tubescreamer- ditto.

in terms of drive aggression, Wampler's Pinnacle 2 has it. it's threatening to spill into the distortion zone.

the other unit which gets my vote for that upfront drive punch would be Carl Martin's DC Drive- but only when the booster mode kicks in.

I dont think the pinnacle is an overdrive bro. too much gain to be an overdrive but its quite aggressive.. I dont have experience with the DC so i dont know.

lemonade93: something i didnt ans in my prev post. All the mods do different things to the TS, some possible effects of the mods are more gain, flatter eq and less noise but for what the individual mods do u have to check the websites or email the modders.

Tubescreamers are creamy, smooth. Anything but aggressive.

Something thats an overdrive, transparent, and aggressive? I think of the Catalinbread WIIO, and the SFT. Thick, chunky, gritty, and super duper dynamic overdrive pedals. Absolutely love those pedals, sadly the WIIO is no longer with me.

@Sub - The wampler sounds real good, unfortunately the price is the total opposite hahaha

@wck - Thanks bro for the info :)

@dudelove - TYMusic supplies them right? :)

np bro. if u want something that can do that brown sound try the cmat mods pedals. i think its called the brownie, its bout $100 cheaper.

Yes catalinbread products are all found at TYMC along with Barber products.
Aggressive overdrive one good recommendation is the Barber direct drive supersport.

The 808 is smoother and less gritty that the TS9, its also darker sounding. The TS9DX is just the TS9 with the turbo section i think, not sure of other differences.

All TS are more smooth sounding in general and work better when pushing an amp or stacking with another OD..so if you're looking for an aggressive standalone OD in afraid u might be disappointed with the TS.

The C'bread SCOD is a good suggestion tho, i think TYMC has a sale on C'bread display units now. U can go check it out if they still have it there

If the like the tubescreamer but want something a little more and of better quality you can consider the A/C booster

The reason i recommended the Barber direct drive is because of its higher gain options/trimpot tweakings allowing you to shape your sound according to your amp/guitar/etc.

If you're looking for a Tubescreamer like pedal with more options and gain the Barber DD is for you. It uses the same JRC4558 chip as a tubescreamer, only more versatile.
