Hi old birds here,

I wonder any senior who in music industry for long here or had heard or experiences in this please let me know.

Recently, I was approach for one of my song as potential for market. So some demo arrangement are in preparation in one of the high cost studio.

Then I was told that if this music publishing (one of the few well know label) find that the song can be given a try to promote...

I will need to pay a standard agent fee of $1350. It will be an gamble investment but stand high percentage of getting my songs sung by some recording artistes in album. Or others...

The song are meant to promote to chinese asian market.

If sold...The royalty will be under mine.

Is it worthwhile to believe?
Should I give it a shot?

:?: thanks for someone input advice...

That's a suspicious smell to it. What is the name of this publisher? It seems there's no risk to them but you risk your $1350. If the song doesn't get sung, they gain $1350 and you lose $1350. They could randomly contact 100 people - which would help them make at least a million if everybody responded. And if the song gets sung by an artiste, they stand to gain again.

Not a bad way to make money, actually...In fact, I would say $500 instead of $1000. More people may respond.

I may be wrong, but I would careful. I've been asked a number of times - but never dared to venture into it...

That what it sound so funny and weird. I only had heard of if they like your songs. They will try to sell it and then u and publisher make certain percentage of money if they are sold. Or they will pay you abit of money to buy your song to rearrange it more commerically.

I would like to hear more opinions though.

No, I don't think i dare to make this risk. Unless there enough evidence...

Sound weird.

..

I am glad you are writing Chinese songs instead of English.

I have not heard of publishers demanding upfront payment before so this definitely doesn't sound right. The usual practice is the publisher will try to push the song to artistes and labels, and if the song is released, the royalties will be split 50-50 between the composer (I presume it's you) and the publisher. No upfront agent fee.
