Hello!

This is my first post in SOFT. I've been playing the guitar for a few years now and can play it reasonably well. My problem is I cannot sing. I did a search in this forum for potential vocal lessons but cannot come out with any conclusive answers where shld I start learning. Would appreciate any help rendered.

Thanks!

First of all, without playing the guitar can you sing? Or is it you can't sing while playing the guitar?

If you're not a singer yet, you really have to train yourself singing. Easiest to just listen to music and sing a long for a start. But if because you can't sing while playing the guitar. I would advise you to train on simple song first which doesn't need much changing of chords. Like a 3 chords structure or so. Eventually, you may move on to progressive chords structure and so on.

Sorry if I didnt make myself clear. What I meant was I can sing while playing. No problem. Just that I think my singing is quite bad. HAHA

There IS no conclusive answer for where you should start learning :) Everyone has their own recommendation.

I would recommend SLS method, because that's what works for me. I was in the same situation, I can play guitar but my voice was boring and dull, and would hurt if I sang too long. Now I've got a voice that sounds more interesting and can last for a long time without any damage to my throat. It's still not as good as I want it to be though.

There's one teacher in Yishun who charges $100 per hour, and another in Toa Payoh who charges $150 per hour. The more expensive one is more experienced. You can also go for half an hour at half the price.

i have listed lots of useful vocal tips for everyone, and i think it would be very useful to you, even if you do not take up vocal lessons on your own. but if you do take up lessons, treat this as a supplementary guide. ;-p

Holy shit btherl! :O That's like.. daylight robbery... they don't even charge that much for a professional private opera lesson..

But well if the duration isn't long I suppose it's a good investment? The price is still scary tho.... *gulps*

I agree with Sage. The price is a robbery in broad daylight plus a spotlight turned on. Hahaha! You don't need to spent that much for some lesson. There are many good musicians/teacher who wouldn't charge that much.

Hey tetra, you're not teaching anymore? Tetra so humble.

There are quite a number of vocal training tutorials on youtube you might want to watch and follow. If you're serious and really want to have a great singing voice, you can read and practice with this the online voice lesson. I believe there are some threads about this here. You might want to check them out as well.
