how to improve on keyboards?
secrets abt keyboards..haha
anything man..

just drop anything bout wat u wanna share with us..

no shortcut know your scales improve your technique start slow the kind of music you play eg metal is very precise it's useful to have a metronome whilepractising otherwise it will sound a little haphazard

its my opinion that solos should be something spontaneous(ideally) so thats why knowing yr scales inside out will be useful otherwise itll become the same old bag of tricks

No short cut to achieve nirvana in such a short time. It all boils down to constant practice and hardwork.

If you are really interested in learning keyboards, you can always sign up for keyboard lessons at Yamaha. It's best to have someone guide you in your keyboardmanship.

Since I'm into metal and I play the keyboards I'll tell you what I observed in how keyboards are used in metal music.

Since you're into power metal, I suggest you listen to lots of baroque classical music as epic power metal bands like Rhapsody and Masterpiece etc have lots of baroque music influences in them.

Keyboard solos in metal may sound complicated due to the fact that they are played fast but most of these keyboard (excluding Children of Bodom's) solos are merely ascending or/and decending scales with a few sharps along the way. Best way to go about doing it is to practice on your scales and I really mean practice on it. Spend like 15 minutes practising your scales, may seem really boring but trust me it really helps.

For a start you can go to ultimate-guitar.com and download the guitar tabs of your favourite metal songs. If the song has keyboards in it, you can practice along to the scores if you want. If you can't read notes you can look at the keyboard digramme above the scores.

Hope that helps but at the end of the day you need to sit down and practice, no shortcut.

Bass cords for keyboard...

Hi...

i just bought a book for keyboard however, some of the songs are based on bass notes.Anyone know how the cords are for bass?? it does not sound right when i play normal keyboard cords..pl pm me...thanks...:)

Actually no secrets lei. Only way is to work yr way thro. It take time to practice. Make sure u spend time running yr fingers on the piano. Understanding and getting to play scales smoothly will help u a lot. Also learn to understand how to play chords and familiar with it.

this must be talked over and over but I still curious about these things :

in relation with keyboard/piano playing..

1. how important the notation reading skill , can a keyboard player skip this skill?

2. .... can survive without metronome practise ?

i am self thaught and asking this because these are two things I missed in learning music..some ten years agooo...

If u intend to learn by ear and have total perfect pitch to recognize pitches, u might be able to skip that. But u wont be able to read notes and find it SUPER SLOW in learning ppl if they give u their piece of music scores to read. My advice: BEST TO DEVELOP IT.

2. .... can survive without metronome practise ?

Yes...if u have perfect internal rythmn feel in yr mind plus u are able to translate it physically on yr instrument. But most of us dont. Metronome is gd to keep track of yr music beats. If u play too fast or too slow, ppl might get "shocked". Tempo in the score is given by music composers to let u have a feel on how the music should go.)

For me, I am learning it with the help of my music trainer who have worked with me to really nail down on rythmn. Lol...I am still super slow on rythmn but I am glad that I have improved on that.

thanks wjvocalist,

regarding to metronome, i have this experience.

my friend is a guitarist who play for more than ten years already. but when last week we do a recording session, he forced to record the guitar track with metronome, he was have a difficult times. that is because he almost never use metronome to play.

so i wonder if i was encounter the situation with fixed metronome tic tac .. i will get lost also with keyboard.

anyone have difficult experience converting the "internal rythm" to real metronome tic tac..?
