Advice and Clarification

Hi all,

need help in advice for keyboard. First thing first, thank you in advance for the many useful advice i will receive :) I was reading through the many thread that is around here, but somehow i still have many doubts, therefore need some help.

I'm thinking of getting a keyboard/digital piano. You can see from here, i'm actually quite undecided. But i do know i would hope to buy one of at least 76keys, and resemblance piano keys. I'm also quite particular about the sound of the keyboard/piano because i would like it to sound as real, and feel as real to a real piano, however will not be able to purchase one that is too ex. I am interested to learn to play and to use for worship (more for personal) for long term. Frankly, as i'm not quite sure of pricing out there (good deals), i'm nt sure what my budget should be. But i hope to keep it within $800 (have actually increased from $500 to this amt haha). Of cos if from your many expert advices that a particular model is really a good deal i can consider. :)

I have look and source around many places and have some models in mind.
1) casio wk-200
2) casio wk-500 (however, i only saw this online, don't see it selling in sg)
3) yamaha np-30
4) Yamaha dgx-220
5) casio cdp-200

I think this 5 models varied widely, but am still quite lost about it. Anyone able to advice which is like a better deal, or recommended ones among these 5?

And also if you find that this 5 models really cannot make it, and you have better ones in mind, i'm also open to hear it.

Thank you!

I wouldn't recommend any of the models you have stated as they don't provide a good realistic touch. You might want to try getting a second hand yamaha p85 which used to retail at $850.. It has realistic touch and great sounds.

76 keys are usually semi-weighted. For realistic touch, you'll almost certainly going to need 88 keys. And with a limited budget, getting the best touch can be trick. P85's touch is on the lighter end of weighted keys.

For church use (and if you are seriously considering long-term), I would recommend Roland RD300SX. RD300GX may be more expensive and you won't need the extra functions. The RD300SX has good touch, great piano sounds and strings sounds you need for church use, and has great ergonomics (very live-playing friendly).

Hi Utano and Cheez, thank you for the very quick replies.

Cheez, the models you introduce looks good, but really way beyond my budget already. I guess i didnt clarify clearly what the keyboard is for. It for me to use personally for worship. So its for self not like in church setting, though the intended songs are generally worship songs.

Utano, thanks for the suggestion too. Yeah, i probably can consider p-85 too. Actually in buying second-hand one, what are the things to consider? Btw, if die die have to choose btw these 5 models, what would you suggest too?

Hi, I think P85 is your best bang for the buck. The other models you listed are really not as worth it as the P85. You should really go and test out all those models to hear for yourself the difference in sound and touch. Then you will know why each are priced the way they are priced. Due to the market segmentation, you really get what you pay for.

For $800, you should be able to get a pretty new 2nd hand P85 with quite a buck as change. Even a brand new P85 costs only slightly above $800. If you're not all that pressed to buy it, hang around the Buy/Sell section and you might get a good deal.

For 2nd hand digital piano, you would need to check mainly that there are no spoilt keys and the speaker works.

the Casio cdp-200 is a better buy than the P85. great solid touch, a little on the heavier side just like yamaha. but a full sound library as well as a built in drum machine will make for a more interesting gadget. built in speakers with external source input -plug in your laptop or mp3 player- and jam along on the piano.

best part - it costs the same as the P85.

Hi.

Yamaha is having a clearance sale and i have this 2 models in mind. DGX 620 and P-140. Any comment on these?
