hey guys,
i have a Sx DG/ltd 2, it has no pick up, means no plug in,
i was wondering whether i could buy a pick up and send it to a shop to get it fixed, and i dont mean like single coil pick ups where you screw it in the sound hole, i mean like fish man pickups, the one thats supposed to come with and electric acoustic guitar, with equalizer and stuff, how much would the hole thing cost?? and recommendations on pickups and places to get them? and recommendations on where to get it done, your answer would be greatly appreciated, thanks :)

Hi,

Yes you can buy the pick-ups seperately and ask the shop to install them, but i wouldn't reccomend it.

If you acoustic guitar may sound lovely and all, you wouldn't drill a big hole in it just so you can plug it into an amp would you? The sound aswell would change due to the resonance of grain and the craftsmanship as well.

But if you DO plan on buying the pickups and sawing a hole in your guitar i'd reccomend the Fishman Classic 4T, as it cvomes with an inbuilt tuner as well!.

Price wise... i think around... 200+?

My suggestion:
If your acoustic guitar sounds great, dont do anything, i would suggest you save money and buy a good quality one WITH ONE already INSTALLED in it :) Just my 2 cents

Nope its best if you go get a new decent acoustic for maybe 400 and above with a preamp already installed. Takamine's has decent ones with a preamp for 450 onwards.

Your SX is not a very expensive guitar I'm guessing, and even then you would be hard press to find guys with a Martin or Hummingbird and wanting to drill out a hole for even a good Fishman or LR Baggs. It would not make economic sense either to have a 200 odd pickup purchase and installation to amplify a simple acoustic.

or you could get a non-invasive pickup like the BBand A2.2 or K&K PWM and an external preamp

that would be a good idea, BUT the sound quality isnt as great as those installed INTO the guitar even if there is an output jack, the sound just doesnt resonate properly.

In My Opinion Lah, it may varry with different guitars

Actually thats a good idea, with the exception of a good more costly acoustic, we just want to amplify a acoustic.

Seymour Duncan has their Woody pickups. These acoustic pickups cost anywhere from 50 to 160 bucks.

Yup. Seymour Duncan Woodys are great sounding soundhole pickups. I have one and I like it, it barely gives feedback even when I skip the DI box and plug it directly into the mixer. Only thing is that Woodys are quite big and might not fit some soundholes. Woodys cost around $129 for the singlecoil version, the humbucker version costs more.

strangely my experience with the woody wasn't all that good.

the M1 though i think is on another level...

but since you don't want stuff in the soundhole... a pickup like the K&K is unobtrusive and sounds fantastic.. with just enough presence in a band, but yet sound natural when playing alone.
