Acoustic Pickups

Hi,
I really love the sound of my acoustic and i want to run it into a recorder to record it, Line6 guitarport. Does not have to be awesome sounding, just affordable. Are the pickups that are less than $50? Please let me know where I can find it.

Thanks.
Have a good week ahead.

For less than $50, you can consider the Stagg soundhole pickup at Maestro outlets. I used it live before and it was pretty decent for the $35 it cost. But I also use a Seymour Duncan Woody and it's a lot better sounding, but it costs $129 brand new and may not fit smaller soundholes. There are Woodys turning up in the buy/sell for $50+ actually, perhaps you could consider those.

There was a WTS post for a Dean Markley soundhole pickup for $50 some time back, but I can't remember who's the seller. The post should still be in the buy/sell but might require some finding and patience.

A regular UST or AST pickup with E.Q., plus the installation, will cost a lot more than $50. Personally I prefer soundhole pickups, they sound more natural in my opinion.

Cheers!

why not get an external pickup, one that doesn't need to cut a hole, but you still have to install it, the output jack has to be installed

There are two types of soundhole pickups.

One type has simply a soundhole pickup with your quarter-inch cable running out from it directly. Another type is a soundhole pickup that has a wire running out from it to a separate, external output jack which you can clip on to your guitar's bottom strap button. Both types can be wired to an output jack if you decide to have one installed on your guitar, saving you the trouble of having wires hanging around.

Having an output jack installed is still cheaper than having a full UST or AST pickup with E.Q. installed. But if you don't want any installation or modifications to your guitar, you can leave it the way it is and use the pickups the way they are designed for.

hey, as for the stagg soundhole pickup from maestro, is it an external pickup, not sure how to put it.. but do i have to drill the bottom of my guitar or can i just clip it on and have an external wire linking it up to the amp?

theloveexperiment,

The Stagg pickup in my review (if you're referring to that) is an external soundhole pickup. The edges are tightened onto the sides of your guitar's soundhole with a screwdriver, so no drilling is required. The external quarter-inch output jack can be clipped on to your guitar's bottom strap button, so no drilling is needed there either.

It's different from the Dean Markley Promag and Seymour Duncan Woody in that it does not have a quarter-inch cable running out from it directly. Instead, the Stagg pickup has a wire that connects to a quarter-inch output jack (which you clip onto the bottom strap button).
