Acoustic Guitar Recommendation

Yamaha

I am surprise no one mention Yamaha. :)

Yamaha Acoustic from Taiwan is the sex! Cheap, reliable and good. Indonesian Made still has a long way to go.

Yamaha makes superb acoustic guitars (I have an Indonesian-made F310 and it absolutely shines) but brands like Cort, Jack and Danny and Custom Acoustic offer higher-end features for the price, such as Fishman electronics. Which is why I'd recommend those brands over more established brands like Takamine, Yamaha, Washburn, Epiphone etc.

Depends on personal preference, I guess. My liking for Yamaha acoustic guitars stems from the fact that my all-laminate Yamaha F310 sounds and plays better than a lot of solid-top guitars by other brands I've tried.

i've tried yamaha and i find it unappealing. so i guess i'm pretty much set on the Maestro i saw, unless custom acoustics beat it. cos i have not tested custom acoustics. will go down and test it probably this weekend.

went to test custom acoustics, but it isn't as nice sounding as the maestro. does yamaha F310 has a cutaway and a preamp? I think I'll go try out Cort as well.

To pessimist:

The Yamaha F310 does not have pre-amp, and does not have cutaway. The electro-acoustic version of the F310 is the FX310, but it has the exact same specifications (so no cutaway) and the only major difference between the FX310 and the F310 is the in-built pre-amp.

I'd say Maestro. I noticed that some of the Corts had rather low-grade looking tops, in comparison the Maestros look like they have higher quality woods used. Also, I tried an all-laminate Maestro and it sounded awesome. It was the SD-2 if I remember correctly, but no pickup. I tried some higher-end Maestros as well and they can easily beat many top end guitars (including a Taylor I've tried) out there.

But Corts have higher value for money if you look at the specs they offer, so that's their plus point there, but I liked the Maestros more.

thanks Eugene. u've been really helpful! much appreciated. I am also looking at the SD2-CE which is the SD2 with cutaway and pickup version. but cos i saw sweeper katong sales and thought maybe I can get a cort solid top at a price $400 and below(which is my budget). if cort's better, I was thinking of waiting for the year end sales to happen at bras basah. after all, I have not tried any cort acoustics and so I don't know which is better.

anyone else care to share which u think is better?

Hey! I'm playing a Cort Earth 100 (I think should be 100 lah, can't really remember the model), left handed, got it for $300+/- after discount. If I'm not mistaken there's a right handed too. IMHO, after playing it for 10 months, it produce a decent and warm and bright sound depending which part you play at. Also, is able to withstand damage, I dropped it quite a few times, depsite that, only a couple of scratches and chip off, which didn't affect the sound. Pretty reliable in my view. :D

Hope this helps!

I'm sorry to bring this thread back up...
I'm interested in Acoustic guitar, but not sure what to look for.
Plan to sell my Electric guitar + Stuffs and fund for it.
Custom Acoustics can be found at? I'm looking for a cutaway body (I'm relatively small sized and lethargic fingers)
I went to some maestro shops, did not see any cutaway acoustic guitar... (My budget is around 300 though)
Saw some low end Takamine guitars but heard from some threads that the guitar isn't worth it?
What's the most bang for buck acoustic guitar?

to zidane:
Thanks for the input.
To Ken:
Thanks for the sacarsm:)

Custom Acoustics are found at city music!
Bang for buck? Sound wise i would vote maestro. Specs wise, custom acoustic! Yup!

Low-end Takamine not worth it? I think they're worth it, they're quite good value for money! Personally I'd go for Takamine over Maestro, Custom Acoustic, because the quality control for Takamine is much more consistent.

Custom Acoustic, Jack and Danny, Walden are currently the best value for money if I'm not wrong.

I haven't seen Custom Acoustics, J&D and Walden around. Cause I've only went to Penin*, all i see is some low end takamine, swing, maestro and some other else. Takamine's construction worth for the buck ? I've been seeing around that Custom Acoustic will be able to get a solid spruce top at least with 300 ? Takamine's low end acoustic guitars looks great though, there's one for 250~ cutaway.
But didn't get to try it the last time, I'm a beginner interested to learn acoustic (Versatility). What is the best ? Custom / Maestro / Takamine (Well... Takamine offers a much 'lower' construction but has great quality control?)

if you can up your budget to about 400, you can get a full solid body Custom Acoustics, which is kinda value for money. So far this is the cheapest full solid body I've seen...

I would say take a walk around Excelsior and Peninsular (and Peace Centre, where City Music is) to browse and try out yourself. At this price range, I agree that Custom Acoustics, J&D are good sounding ones. Not so sure about Maestro and Walden, cos nv try before. Or you can try out Washburn!

Takamine i would suggest getting those that cost at least 600+? idk...
