Any acoustic guitar connoisseurs here?
Had been wanting to get a nice acoustic guitar for a few years, would most probably pull the trigger pretty soon, but would like to get some opinions from you guys...
Having always been a fan of Tommy Emmanuel, I would love to get my hands on a Maton EGB808... I tried a few mid-end Matons (never tried a 808 before), and they do feel darn good... But after reading some reviews, it doesn't really cut it to be played unplugged, mainly due to it's smaller body (lack of bass and volume etc)... But it seems to be one of the best steel string guitars for recording, as the sound of the Maton off TE's record is somewhat unique compared to the conventional Taylors and Martins... The piezo/mic pickup on the Maton is looking really good...
But then again, my concern is it doesn't really perform well unplugged...
On the other hand, I'm considering some Taylors too, most notably the ones Brandon's carrying... Saw a 714ce going for a nice price a while ago... I love the feel of a Taylor, but the snappy signature Taylor sound is sometimes a little off putting...It still sounds great though, but sometimes I just miss that warm (Martin-ish) kinda sound... As good as a Martin sounds, I just don't like the feel of its neck, so that's a definitely no no...
So, to summarize the long post (sorry!), I'm leaning towards the Maton, but am concerned about its unplugged performance... I love the Taylor, but the signature snappy sound doesn't really do it for me... Can you guys shed some light on your experience? And maybe recommend me a brand/model for me to check out? My budget is around SGD3.5k...
Thanks for reading!
