Hi Guys,

im a noob guitarist.. i was about to buy a yamaha guitar in a store in peninsula but salesman introduce to me this SWINg BRAND MODEL:sm-100 OP.
has anyone here is using any swing brand. they say this brand is famous in KOrea now. and the guitar actiually sounded better than the yamaha f310 considering the yamaha is expensive than Swing. i tried to search for reviews online but didnt see anything.. is this brand worth in terms of quality of make, sound and more? or can anyone suggest a nice accoustic guitar for a budgert of not morethan 250SGD. thanks a lot.

I haven't played the Swing yet but I think they're about the same. I have the Yamaha F310 (the lowest-end acoustic Yamaha makes and the only one below $250) and it's a good-sounding guitar for the money and it plays very well too. Only thing is that it looks rather cheap. So price and looks-wise, I guess I'd grab the Swing if I were you.

By the way, Swing has been getting some good reviews here especially their electrics. The Swing Prism was even video-reviewed on Guitarworld... So it's not an obscure brand at all. Just not so prominent as of yet.

thanks for the reply.. they also showed me swing telecaster electric guitar that plays good for the price of 290. i ask here because i cant find any review post on youtube. the only thing about the acoustic guitar he showed me was that its an OP (open pore version.. they say the guitar wood can breathe i told him if its open pore why is it laminated? its just like saying open pore but covered. anyway, ihope to see some more reviews. yamaha fs310 package was offered to me in yamaha senkang, for 220 including tuner, bag and picks. but if you buy the body only its 179 their christmas promo.

I've tried it before, and I thought the guitar was worth more than 500 bucks, but when I asked hoe much was it selling ar, I couldn't believe it. The sound is better than most of the Yamaha acoustic I've tried. Plus, it has a lower action, which would make it much comfortable to play. Since I'm actually playing more of electric, I don't have to worry on getting used to the action of the acoustic.
Swing is a really reputable guitar manufacturer, their guitars are mainly made in Korea. However, recently Swing have released a cheaper batch of guitars that are made in Indonesia, and sold at a cheaper price. The one you've mentioned might just be an Indonesian model. You could learn more at theguitaraddict's blog.

For guitars within the budget range, brands shouldn't be part of the consideration. specs > brand but most importantly, try the guitar first before buying.
